The synopsis for Entrapped had me really looking forward to reading it, but I have to say that this novella wasn't quite what I was expecting. The first half of it made me rather uncomfortable, mainly because of how Jamil and Leila met and began their interactions. Jamil had suffered heinous tortures as a prisoner of war for eleven years including repeated rapes at the hands of the sadistic male jailer and his guards. I can usually handle quite a bit when it comes to abus

This was a gritty story. Leila is widowed and scarred from a bombing. Jamil is a prisoner for many years and knows his life is coming to an end soon. The two find a connection and hope for a better future together. They risk death as they make their way to freedom. I enjoyed this story.

This is book 4 in the Black Gold series. It's been renamed and revised, and is now part of the Oil Barons series.
Jamil’s fighter jet was shot down about eleven years during the Gulf War and he’s been a POW ever since at an Iraqi oil field/prison. He’s suffered horrible torture: beatings, rapes, starvation, threats of dismemberment and castration, watching his countrymen be tortured and die, etc. This poor man has suffered through hell but his comrade and friend, Asad, was not so lucky. Leila lo

A woman wanting revenge on the Americans who killed her young husband and destroyed any hope of her finding another. A man who has been badly tortured for eleven years but kept alive because of what he knows of oil machinery.
Lelia has known nothing of love and compassion since losing her young husband. With the scars of war, so profoundly on her face and body. She hides more or less in shame because no man wants her due to it. So when visiting her married sister. She comes across a Kuwait man na

I was hoping for this character for a while now, wondering if he'd be just a talked about person but never come to light with what happened to him.
Both the main characters have physical and mental scarring and come together finding happiness in an ugly place.
This book of the series was rather dark and full of torture and abuse, but imperative to the story. War is far from pretty and for someone to come back from years of torture is quite a miracle. Ann wrapped up their journey well and gave the

Breaking Free by Ann Jacobs

Breaking Free is a look at how something beautiful can come from ugliness. Leila and Jamil have endured their share of pain. Living though a hell that is inhumane and never ending. Scars whether hidden or visible are daily reminders of the torture and grief. I received a copy of Breaking Free in exchange for an honest review. A story of captivity that is courageous and eerie. I like Ann Jacobs stories and her characters,

This book is completely different to the other. Jamill is captured tortured raped by not only male guards but also the sister in law of his enemy. I struggle a lot to finish this with all the raping n torture. Especially after jamill got Stockholm syndrome. It did have a nicer ending but I don't like people from two different sides like jamill n leila can really make it work after what they've had done to them and what they did to each other.

Received the book for an honest review. Breaking Free is a story of two people who were both physically and mentally scared by war. This book is not your typical contemporary romance novel. It is a little darker and grittier than the other books in the Oil Barons series. This is a book of rebirth, hope, love and happiness. Well written and I hope we get to see more of the characters somewhere along the series.

Like a slasher flick, this book had me torn between disgust and fascination. There are lots of disturbing elements in this tale - torture, rape, castration - yet there are also some very poignant moments at the end. Not light reading.
