This is the 1st book of a trilogy and it is a good start. This is not a typical vampire book, the main character is a very old (5000 years) vampire locked in a body of a very young (19 years) girl. She is sensitive, caring and very emotional for her human friends and followers and this, even being very strong, put her in very dangerous situation. In order to adapt to the new world she created a network of very loyal people, that help her stay under the radar from her enemies. The secret that she ...more
The description of this book really caught my attention and I was excited about starting it. Now I'm kicking myself for actually finishing it. It's time I can never get back.
Khallie is the weakest vampire I've ever read. How can a 5000 year old vampire get labeled like that? Because she is totally spineless! After reading so many paranormal romance books, it's very difficult for me to accept an author who makes the heroine such a weakling. We expect more of our heroines and the author should hav

REINING IN is an entertaining vampire story about love, romance and friendship. The story is seen through the eyes of Khalida, a five-thousand-year-old vampire stuck in a nineteen-year-old’s body. Imagine five thousand years on earth; then imagine being hunted for all that time by another vampire. Khalida has not had an easy time, but here in the 21st century, she has managed to find some stability by setting up a group of hand-selected individuals to protect her. However, an unfortunate event u ...more

I have a love/hate relationship with books featuring vampires. Some focus on aspects I’m not fond of or feel like carbon copies of other books and stories. Very few have the right mix of things to draw me in. Reining In (The Network) does just that.

The main character Khalida isn’t your typical vampire. She is a creature of emotion and secrets, one who feels all too human. Her personality and her novel approach to living in a human dominated world are two of the things that drew me to the book. L

This is simply put a fantastic book. It is nice to get a vampire character that is more than just good looks, and supernatural abilities. You feel for Khalida and what she goes through... you cheer for her and cry with her. It has been a while since I have read a book that I actually cared about the main character the way that I did about her. I had a hard time putting it down, just because I needed to know what happened next. It's a great book, and you will not be disappointed.

Recommends it for: anyone that loves a good/different vampire tale.

A real page turner (I could not put this down, seriously), with lots of intrigue, twists and turns. A very differnt type of vampire story that keeps you engrossed until the very last page. I would love to have a family like the "network", like Mack! I found the main character to be different than I expected, but really liked the change. Kudos to Dawn Judd this is a great one and hopefully with more to come.

I don’t even know where to start with this one… I have never heard of this author before but the cover drew me in and I love to support new authors so I bought it on a whim. The title didn’t really say much to me (sounds like horse stuff) but I care about the content more than what it’s called so I plunged right in. I didn’t read the reviews when I got this but I went back and read them after I finished curious to the reception this got… are we all reading the same book here? Not to be cruel be

1.5 Stars.

I am now wondering if I read a different book than the other reviewers, because this book was, well, a mess.

After being recommended to me by goodreads, the synopsis had me enthusiastic: vampires, power, control, conspiracy. I imagined something in the lines of cyberpunkish future, and I was pumped.

And what I got was... well, what is the best textbook study case of "SHOW, DON'T TELL" I ever read. Every writing book hammers on this line, and Reining In should be used as an example of "T

Khalida is one of the most human vampires I have read about. Often you see vampires having to mimic their "human-ness" and hide their preternatural strength around other mortals so their secret of their immortality doesn't escape. While Khalida is concerned with privacy and secrecy, she has very little trouble blending in with those who do not know she is a vampire. She is also very emotional instead of being so distant from everyone. It was something I had to mention first since that part in pa ...more

Khalida is a vampire, and in the thousands of years she has existed she's managed to pile up some secrets, as well as a group of trusted individuals hired to help guard them. Her group is called the Network and their talents range from personal security, to computer hacking, to tracking her enemies, to reinventing Khalida's identity when she's stayed in one place too long. Her life doesn't foster the ability to get close to others very often but when the lives of the few she calls friends are th ...more

This was fast paced, action packed story about a very powerful vampire named Khalida. There were many unexpected and surprising twists in the story! If you love vampires and your looking for a quick read this would be the perfect book to grab.
There was some mistakes in the writing that could have been easily fixed had someone taken the time to proofread this very carefully. Even so, the author has an amazing story telling ability. Judd pulls you right in with raw emotion. You instantly like Khal

I won this from a Goodreads giveaway and the book is about a vampire named Khalida. With the ever changing world it becomes harder and harder for her to hide. Khalida becomes involved with a group of people who help her to hide from humans. But, humans aren't her only worry; some vampires are after her too.
When Khalida makes a mistake, she is tossed into a world of chaos and must save those who she has come to call her family.

This was a pretty good vampire book. I enjoyed it.

The plot has promise however it was very choppy and seemed to jump around. Many sections could have been more streamlined.

Unless you have been living in a closet, or an underwater vessel void of civilization, I’m pretty sure you’ve noticed the “Vampire Trend.” It is nearly impossible to enter a store (book, clothing or even grocery) without seeing a product featuring the spiky toothed un-dead we as a culture have become obsessed with. Yes… I myself have a sick fascination with the fanged, but in recent years have found myself stumped with the turn towards good versus evil. When I was a teenager books like “Dracula” ...more

REINGING IN by Dawn Judd, was a different kind of Vampire book. Khalida lives in a modern day world & has a whole organization behind her helping to keep her life a secret. In modern times it's hard to remain anonymous with Social security numbers & where people are able to run background checks on you. It's as easy as hitting a few keys on your computer to find out about someone, so Khalida needs people to cover up her origins. Actually, she's one of the oldest vampires to walk this ear ...more

This book was simply wow. From beginning to end it never lets you up. The pace, writing style, and plot was amazing. Finish it off with a huge bang? Sold! This book pulled out all the stops. Even Emotionally I was along for a ride. Characters were so well developed it was like I knew them for five thousand years. The story is completely original. Not a disappointing book, and a must read. Okay now, when is the next one coming out? LOL!
