Kamaitachi, a groundbreaking body of work by photographer Hosoe Eiko and ankoku butoh master Hijikata Tatsumi, is universally recognized as a classic masterpiece of the Japanese photobook. It was originally published in 1969 by Seigensha in an edition of 1000, and reprinted in this revised and expanded hardbound trade edition by the same publisher in 2009. The setting for this body of work was a farming village in rural northern Japan, where Hosoe photographed Hijikata’s spontaneous and impromptu interactions with the landscape and the locals they encounterd. 55 leaves of plates ; 33 cm.
