Cath Staincliffe is a best-selling, award-winning novelist, radio playwright and the creator of ITV's hit series, Blue Murder, starring Caroline Quentin as DCI Janine Lewis. Cath's books have been short-listed for the British Crime Writers Association best first novel award, for the Dagger in the Library and selected as Le Masque de l'Année. In 2012 Cath won the CWA Short Story Dagger for Laptop, sharing the prize with Margaret Murphy with her story The Message. Cath was shortlisted again with Night Nurse in 2014. Another good story about the private investigator Sal Kilkenny - two parallel plots here, a missing person whose body is found, and a missing Iranian refugee. I enjoy these books.

Sal Kilkenny is a private investigator, one week in June she finds herself on a missing person case, after wrapping up that case and finding the missing person she suddenly finds she has two new missing person cases. Janet has been missing for over a week, her husband reported her missing when she failed to collect her kids from school. Berfan has also gone missing, he is under threat of being deported back to Iran. Can Sal balance her work and personal life and find these missing people.

When I read this book, I didn't realise it was the middle of the series. Which seems to be a habit of mine, I read one in the middle of the series, enjoy it then end up reading the whole series from the beginning. Which is what's happened here too.

I really enjoyed this book, it was a nice refreshing change to read about a female private investigator, one who balances work and personal life including having kids an relationships.

I really enjoyed seeing how she manages to juggle her children and personal relationships alongside her work life. Yet again another fantastic book from Staincliffe, well written with wel thought out characters, an interesting and easy to follow plot. I found this book very unputdownable.

I’ve never read anything by this author but will read more. Sal Kilkenny is a private investigator who specializes in finding missing persons. But she seems to provide more than that service. She is more like a social worker who tries to sort out the lives of the missing people she finds. This book involves three ongoing cases: a man who was adopted and is looking for his birth mother, an Iranian refugee who is looking for his brother, who was tortured in Iran and is mentally ill, and Janet Florrin, who disappeared one day and was never seen again. All three of these stories unfold and are solved with the Janet Florrin one being the most important because it involved tracking down a murderer. And, along with all of that, Sal’s best friend is being treated for breast cancer, and the man she has shared a house with for six years, now wants more involvement than just being house mates. An interesting book, and Staincliffe manages to pull all the plots together and not to keep it too confusing. And it was a book of happy endings, which felt good right now. I’ll read more by Staincliffe.

Highly enjoyable mystery. This is my second novel by Staincliffe and I really enjoy her writing style as well as the pace of her mysteries. They really pull you along all. I think this novel was good with the main story and some side plots to keep it interesting. The only thing I didn't care for was the romance. Sometimes you just want a good mystery, no frills. But that's just my taste.

This is the second Cath Staincliffe book I have read and I am a fan. Missing is #7 in the Sal Kilkenny series, but the earliest one of the series I could find at a local library. I'll have to keep my eyes open for others. Good puzzle, very likable heroine.
