After returning from his first trip to Solandria, Hunter Brown finds himself deserted by his best friends, but with memories of his adventures and many unanswered questions. He returns to school in the fall, where his tendency to think he is being trailed by the Shadow lands him in a heap of trouble.
Soon, Hunter takes a wild ride to Solandria with new friends, only to find the Codebearers scattered and the Resistance weakened. Led by a mysterious Flame, Hunter, Trista and Rob begin their quest to find the seven mentioned in the Author’s Writ. But they face a brutal adversary, Xaul, who threatens to destroy all that remains of the Resistance.
Hunter Brown and the consuming fire is the second action packed book in the codebearing series. This second adventure starts just a few months after Hunter Brown had returned back to the veil from Solandria with a new faith in the great Author; who wrote all of life itself. But as with every story there must be a villain and that is where the dreaded Scolarious comes into play. With his minions the shadow he will stop at nothing to relinquish the great name of the Author and destroy the resistance. Taking the memory of Hunters best friend Stubbs and his adventures in Solandria Hunter feels so alone like he is the only one to know of this great place. That was until Hunter met Rob, the very clumsy codebearer who can hardly walk let alone wield a sword. When Hunter finds himself in trouble at the school fair he happens to drag Trista, and Rob back to Solandria with him. There was many twist and turns as Hunters faith was tested to the very limit along with Trista who is thrown into the chaos and asked to believe in some great figure that she has yet to even see. Upon returning to the veil we find Hunter in the clutches of the Shadow using a new tactic. With a faith as strong as Hunters they would just have to take his memory of Solandria and all he had faced.
After Hunter’s last trip to Solandria, he’s pretty much deserted by his best friend, who doesn’t remember the trip. But Hunter can’t forget it. He meets up with two new friends who recognize the Author’s mark, and together they are transported to Solandria to embark on a very dangerous quest. Hunter must carry the Flame to Torpor in an attempt to find the other marked people. They meet plenty of people along the way. How will they know who to trust?
These are really fun books for middle grade readers. They’re filled with adventure and allegory and all kinds of cool things. Plus they have neat pictures at the beginning of each chapter for those readers who still like a visual every now and then. I really enjoy the way the Miller brothers tell a story. And I love the way the weapons in Solandria are powered by faith. Pretty cool stuff. If you haven’t heard of these books, I recommend them for readers aged ten and up.
After returning from his first trip to Solandria, Hunter Brown has felt the presence of the Shadow following him. And, in the first month of school, his suspicions are confirmed when someone steals his bag and writes "Death to all Codebearers" on the wall of one of the stalls of the boys bathroom. With the Destiny Fair approaching, Hunter comes home to find his house ransacked by a little animal called a snark. When Hunter goes to the fair to try to prove to his friends that Solandria does exist, he finds out that they won't be coming. While wandering the fair, Hunter bumps into two kids that he has seen at school, and they both have heard of Solandria and the Codebearers. Rob, one of the two people that Hunter meets up with (the other one being Trista), actually has a Veritas Sword, the weapon of choice for the Codebearers.

Okay...so, I don't think this was better than the first book...but this was really good anyways. I really liked Trista and how she was so positive and I still like how this can have a sort of Christian point of view.
