This review was originally posted on my review blog : Falling Off The Shelf.

From the synopsis above I was intrigued to read this debut novel from new author, M.L. Lacy. When I recieved the book, I was extremely excited, and couldn't wait to start reading it. Unfortunetly, I made it just past 100 pages before I grew bored enough to say that I can not finish this novel. I'm going to have to update my Review Policy to include a 100 page Rule for moments like this.

I tried very had to get into this n

REVIEW: Chrysalis: The Awakening: Book 1

Let me start out by saying I LOVED this book. In fact I read Chrysalis: The Awakening three times because I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss anything the second and third time around.

Chrysalis: The Awakening is book one in this epic installment by debut author, M.L. Lacy which is a coming to age story where the main character Bree has lived under the assumption that she is just your average thirty two year old woman. Yep, Bree has gone through a horrendou

Chrysalis: The Awakening by M L Lacy is an interesting combination of paranormal and contemporary romance. In her early thirties, Aubrey Marie - Bree - discovers that she is the Chosen One. The last Chosen One. She has a clan of vampires, werewolves and other supernaturals protecting her. Esmerelda the egomaniac sorceress is out to destroy Bree so that she can gain supremacy over the human race. 3.5 Stars!

Bree Campbell, in her early thirties, has had a difficult life. From extremely overprotective parents to freak accidents to abusive husband, she has experienced it all and has emerged stronger as a person. Her experiences could have turned anyone bitter and untrusting, but Bree was a loving person who simply wanted to forget and move on. With her divorce in the process, she accompanies her grandmother to Las Vegas expecting one week of boredom. And my, could she be any more wrong? From

I will start by saying I did not completely finish The Awakening, as the writing style is not of the type that I truly enjoy. Much of the novel is dialog about past events, instead of events currently unfolding. When I say that it is dialog, I mean it is usually character divulging past events to other characters. The most interesting parts of the novel already occurred. This is the most difficult roadblock I had in reading this novel. The protagonist has a really traumatic and rich history, but ...more

Book 1 of a new series by M. L. Lacy, Chrysalis: The Awakening, is an intriguing addition to the fantasy genre. With nearly 600 pages, that read very easily and quickly, I highly recommend you start this series right now, as Bree awakens!

No, Aubrey Marie Campbell has not been “asleep;” rather, she has been a mortal since birth and now is her time to “transition” into the magical realm. You see she is A Chosen One—in fact

I love to read fantasy novels. When I was given the opportunity to read “Chrysalis – The Awakening” by M. L. Lacy I was pretty excited. I expected your typical romance between a vampire and a human, but I was given so much more!

The Awakening is the first book in the Chrysalis trilogy. “Chrysalis” means anything in the process of developing and that is exactly what is happening to Aubrey (“Bree”), she is changing into a magical being. Bree has spent her entire life not knowing how important she i

I loved this book. The main character, Bree is a 32 yr old woman who has been sheltered from the truth and her real identity her entire life. In the midst of protecting her, her parents and friends kept her from her true love and paved the way for evil to insinuate itself into her life - in the form of her abusive and deadly husband. She was beat down both mentally and physically. Now that she is getting a divorce, the path is clear for her reunion with her soul mate, Steven. She just isn't imme ...more

this was a very interesting premise for a book. I do not think it should be considered as a young adult book though. The main characters are in their 30's and 40's and there is somewhat descriptive sex scenes as well as a sexual theme throughout the entire book. The characters all sleep with one another to "bond" in the vampire clan. It might be a bit much for teens who are just now discovering their sexuality. The writing was also done in ways in which the reader could get easily confused. The ...more

Here we go again. It's another Mary Sue character in another Chosen One scenario. This is the first book in the Chrysalis series. It's called The Awakening and is by author M.L. Lacy.

You know the story -- the Chosen One (aka Mary Sue) is beautiful but tortured. She has had a tragic life and must be fixed by her soul mate so she can finally know everlasting gooey love and her destiny.
That is the main character Bree. However, not all is lost. She is not the angst-ridden, tortured teenager that

This book was *really* good. I won it in a firstreads contest, and I am definitely going to have to try to procure the next book in the series. The whole concept was a little odd, but if you can deal with that, then the storyline is awesome. Its one of those books that really sucks you into it, and you have a hard time putting it down. And when you pick it up to start reading it, time just flies and the next thing you know its several hours later. I love books like that.

I have to admit, I was a

Oh my, love this book!! “Chrysalis – The Awakening” by author M.L. Lacy rates up there with one of my favorite books of the year!

This book revolves around Aubrey Marie who discovers in her 30′s that she is what is called the “last chosen one”. Without her knowledge, she was chosen before her birth to become the leader of the world – actually, the last, supreme leader of the world. As such, earlier in her life she should have transformed from a human to a Magical Sorceress Leader, but was unable

I'm not much of a vampire book reader, but this book was free for my Nook and I've become a fan of the indie writers. This book has lots of vampires in it, but they don't follow the stereotypical vampire bit-everything-you-see behavior. This is more of a fantasy about a girl named Bree that doesn't know that she is the "chosen one". On a trip to Las Vegas with her Grandmother, Bree's memories are restored to her and she begins her transformation from the mortal world to the magical one. She disc ...more

This book was good enough to entice me into wanting to see how the story played out. Our main character, Aubrey Marie, is the Last Chosen One - and this book introduces us to life before she learns that there are two realms co-existing on Earth.

Bree, as she is known by friends and family, has a difficult path to walk . . . As do her friends and loved ones, for they know of the prophecy that foretells her coming and what she must endure before undergoing a massive change that will alter her phys

I had a bit of a love/hate relationship with this particular novel. There were some particularly brilliant thoughts (love) and the underlying storyline was great (love). But, it was clouded over by overly-blatant and totally rampant, incestuous sex (hate). There were also several editing errors throughout that caused me reading stumbles, which really frustrate me (hate). The plot was fast and exciting (love), but the main heroine was super wishy-washy between being a strong person and being noth ...more

Chrysalis The Awakening really is a fantasy story. It has everything from romance to vampires, but has a much more adult feel than other books, like twilight. Because although it is written in a common genre it is a book all of its own. The plot and story line are definitely unique to this book series. M.L. Lacy is a fantastic author, and maes the book flows so well that I read it cover to cover in two days and had the right amount of suspense and mystery to keep me interested in reading. The ch ...more

I was hooked from the start! Bree is wonderful. She has been tested beyond belief in her human life - to live through all that she did and retain her humanity and compassion is testament to her strength of character - and now she is being tested in her new magical life. When she completes her transition she will be able to give the magical community the moral compass that they lack. I can't wait to see what happens next.

I LOVE this series! I read the third one first and am glad that I now have the chance to go back and learn more about the characters. I love the parts where it talks about Bree's past like her college years. This is definitely one of my favorite series that I will be reading again and again!

I was interested in this book because the main character is 32. It's nice to read about a character that is closer to my age. Unfortunately, the plot moves at a soap opera pace. It's mostly people talking with some smut thrown in. It's a waste of valuable reading time so I dropped it.

Madonna Lacy is the author of Chrysalis – The Awakening. Her intense love for the Rocky Mountains, and the American West, are often reflected in her story lines for her Chrysalis series.

A vivid imagination of places and people allows her to create fictional worlds that push established storytelling boundaries. M.L. Lacy is married living in far north Forth Worth, Texas, is the mother of two sons,
