This is on the bookshelf in the room where Sally is getting hit on by Glen’s friend Rolo S06E12 (The Quality of Mercy). The book itself is a classic science text on evolution as the title suggests but it is interesting to think of it in terms of the show.

This is a definite turning point in the evolution of Sally as she’s just caught her dad having an affair and is about to leave her mom for boarding school. In addition, there is the typical awkward flirtations and advances of teenagers in this particular scene which speaks to the evolution of the young people.

Wonderful photographs, interesting history of our understanding of evolution and its basic components (taxonomy, genetics, chromosomes, etc). Didn’t belabor topics. Somewhat dry in parts. Underrated bit of reference material!

Usually used these Life Nature books for reference but read this in its entirety back in the day. Where were the rest of those books, anyway?

I read the 1964 edition. The content of the first two chapters, Darwin's Voyage into the Past and A Theory That Shook the World, is the best short narrative I've read of Darwin's motivation, his life in science, and his importance in the history of science. The remaining six chapters are very dated and interesting only as an example of how far knowledge of the Earth's deep timeline has unfolded since both the publishing of this lovely book and of Darwin's Origin book(s).

Moore beautifully sets the philosophical and scientific context from which Darwin's thinking and methodology emerged.

The edition is "Young Readers Edition: Evolution" by Ruth Moore. It was published in 1968. I enjoyed reading the unique choice of words and phrases and looking at the illustrations in this book. It brought me back to my "school days" even though the book was published before I was born. 8-)

Given its publication date, the information and language appear a bit dated, but overall, this book is clearly written and has some nice illustrations.

Outdated now, but still an interesting introduction to the subject and well illustrated. And I was tickled when I noticed the typesetter's name of C.E. Dawkins Ltd.
