Though the name of this first class art periodical/magazine has gone through several changes since its inception in 2008 as ORANGES & SARDINES to the present day POETS and ARTISTS: O&S, this current volume now available is the finest one to date. Editor/Publisher Didi Menendez continues to spy all the talent that abounds in the stretches of the country and manages to gather sensitively curated collections as well as anyone in the business. Though the name of this first class art periodical/magazine has gone through several changes since its inception in 2008 as ORANGES & SARDINES to the present day POETS and ARTISTS: O&S, this current volume now available is the finest one to date. Editor/Publisher Didi Menendez continues to spy all the talent that abounds in the stretches of the country and manages to gather sensitively curated collections as well as anyone in the business. This present issue is a must have for lovers of every ilk of both fine poetry and fine art.

Not content to narrow focus on solely one type of approach to the arts, this magazine manages to group both similar and disparate artists in a fashion that makes each seem all the more unique and special. For poetry there are both some extended works by fine poets as well as reviews of individual poets that embrace the appreciation of poetry as a very lively art form. Poets such as Allan Peterson, Monica Brown an Joshua Young stand alone with only the poetry to speak, while Jenn McCreary, Edward D. Nudelman and Brigette Byrd are shared in in-depth review states.

The same approach is given to artists. There is a tendency now to include photographs of artists at work in their studios followed by 'interview' comments - articles including the large scale paintings of hookers by cover artist Robert Standish, the realistic figurative work by Lindsay Frei and the pieces of realism and expressionism mixed with allure by Joshua Bronaugh and the haunting images of Bryan LeBoeuf interlaced with the cityscapes and landscapes of Ken Cogan and Jeremy Mann. And for readers who are interested in the place of certain artists in the state of mind of the world today - comments on the present thoughts about environment (Kirk Pedersen), our relation to history and to social order (Edward Walton Wilcox and Kehinde Wiley), and on the spiritual concepts as related by Jacquelyn McBain and Younhee Paik - there are reviews that emphasize the importance of the artists' role in our contemporary society. This is a collection for the eye and for the mind. Many of the names are well known to the art world while others are on the brink of discovery. The quality of reproductions of their art and their thoughts is exemplary. This is an art journal to savor! Grady Harp
