Runner's World The Runner's Diet

The Runner's World Runner's Diet describes the ultimate eating plan for runners or walkers, who want to get to and maintain a leaner, faster, and fitter form. This book is from author and PhD health expert Madelyn Fernstrom at Runner's World Magazine. This book takes a look at the kind of carbs, fats and proteins that runners should eat and the author discusses a ratio that she believe is best for runners in order to maintain their weight over a long period of 50% carb, 25% fat and 25% protein. In this book, Dr. Fernstrom details a realistic program, individualized for each person's activity level, that will enable them to maximize their performance while maintaining long-term, successful weight control.

I am young (23) and active so losing weight is not really something I am aiming for. I thought this book would provide a diet plan to increase my distance or speed. It did neither. The book was mainly written for middle-aged people who probably don't eat right in the first place. I have always been an extremely healthy eater and gained no new information. Previously I had been more of a weight lifter and knew how to eat like one. When I started getting into running about a year ago I figured my diet probably needed tweaking but didn't know how. This book was a major let down because it was extremely general and pretty much framed exactly how I already eat. The moral I took from it: healthy eating is healthy eating no matter what activity you are in to.

Wasn't what I was expecting. I was expecting a plan but it's not. There are some very short term basic plans in the appendix and a few good tips throughout the book

I thought it was a great book, but DO NOT buy through Rodales - unbelievable rip off price! My mistake.
