This mystery that seems to take place in the 80s was fun. There isn't really a sleuth, just characters thrown into the circumstances surrounding a death. Joe is a computer science professor in the days when computers required that the people speaking to them use their language, Cat is his tenant (and more), pretty much all the families are dysfunctional, and there's a drug-infused band whose members call each other by animal names. All of these plot elements swirl around the murder of one of Joe's students. This is the first in a series set in fictional Port Silva, California. I will enjoy continuing to read the series which is a bit of a walk down memory lane. Joe and Cat seem like people I'll enjoy meeting again.
