Archangel: The Book of Mammon is an urban fantasy detective tale chock full of supernatural creatures that coexist in a parallel spiritual world to ours. The story mainly takes place in New York with a lot of angel mythology rooted in.

Our male Protagonist Michael is a special agent of an anti-terrorism unit that was deliberately assigned to work on a murder case with a clever female detective(EPIC Bones vibes). The case led Michael to more than one mystery to solve. Which makes him constantly asking himself what was happening in the magic world & to himself. The mysteries build as the story progresses.

Michael was such a dangerous yet fun character to meet and an adventurous book boyfriend indeed. He's someone that you can root for and he definitely has a distinct voice (plus he has WINGS).

While the humor is very entertaining, the action part of the story is incorporated perfectly into the plot and makes for a smooth and captivating reading. And when it comes to the writing, the author somehow manages to be both creative and down to earth.

I know this book is described as a snarky urban fantasy detective series. I agree that it delivers on this, but it's much more than that. It has a strong protagonist, a complex mystery to be solved, diverse, secondary characters, great world building, and creative Writing! Highly recommended to everyone who enjoys Urban paranormal, supernatural, angels, demons, other beings, drama, suspense, it's all here in one nice package.

I read that each book in the series will be linked to one of the deadly seven sins. Book of Mammon has the Greed sin, which makes me wonder what author Black Mike has in store for his readers in the next installment!
Looking forward to see what trouble will Michael and Sarah find themselves battling next!

3.5 rounded up to 4 stars out of 5.

An interesting urban fantasy with a government operative discovering over the course of the novel that he's a half-angel and a stalking horse in a war between demons and other forces just outside normally accepted reality.

Solid plotting and good character choices, even if a few characters are monodimensional trope placeholders. The story moves along at a fast clip, keeping the reader with it up through the climax and denouement.

My only complaint that pulled me out of the story was Michael's oft-repeated "No-Sword" fighting technique. It's fine for a long and detailed explanation the first time this trick is introduced, but by the fourth or sixth time used (and explained overly much), it threw me out of the storyflow and reading. If a character has a signature move, label it, define it ONCE, and then either have new ways to descibe the action after noting its use or just move along. Narration can sometimes help with action but in this case, it ruined much of the climactic battle with a preponderance of over-explanation and overthinking.

Fantastic Story!

The author, Black Mike’s writing style is intriguing, one of a kind. “ARCHANGEL: The Book of Mammon” is an occult fantasy thriller with strong religious elements. The book starts with a suspenseful prologue which will leave you on the edge of your seat, wondering how it connects with the main plot. Chapter one begins with introducing the main character, Michael Lieberman, who is a special agent who works on domestic terrorism cases in New York.

Michael has been trailing a terrorist group called The Resistance for weeks however, after a failed stake-out and strange encounter, Michael is introduced to Detective Sara Wilson, whose murder case links to his case. The two join forces to investigate the link between their cases but the task is far from easy. Michael’s eyes have been opened and he’s slowly learning about the supernatural things in the world, including the truth about his family. With the help of Gabriel, an angel, Michael slowly learns about his family and his greatest threat, Mammon, the demon prince of greed.

Evidence reveals to Michael that his older sister, Hannah who recently reappeared in his life is a member of the terrorist group he’s been investigating. Hannah is adamant that she isn’t the villain and her main goal is to stop “The ten”; a group of billionaires working with Mammon. Michael and Sara try to connect all dots to their investigation, but they are faced with many challenges.

I really don’t want to get into the story beyond this point because it’s fair to you or the author and I want this fascinating piece of art to unfold like magic right before your eyes, as it did mine. Just read the book and enjoy the story for yourself.

I will add that this book was a suspenseful book to read. The story is filled with a lot of unexpected twists and turns. The descriptions were perfect. There was not a single moment where I was trying to figure out what was going on in the scenes. It draws a fantastic line between Thriller and Fantasy.
Overall, great book. Definitely recommend it to anyone who loves Fantasy Thrillers books.

A solid urban fantasy that leverages the christian mythos well. You get angels and demons in a quasi police procedural vs powerful oligarchs driven be greed (aka mammon). The story itself doesn’t really go into much detail about anything, but that is actually a strength because the story moves along nicely and doesn’t get bogged down anywhere. It is also what prevents the story from being exceptional … in that the story doesn’t really wander far from a fairly predictable plot-line. Still, it is better than most in this niche genre, so I am rounding up my score and will probably pick up the sequel if and when it comes out.

I was given this free advance reader copy (ARC) ebook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I haven't read an urban fantasy in a while! It's not that I don't like them, but because they are oversaturated with the same tone, style, and tropes and always seem to lack a solid foundation for the fantasy stuff. Because of my subjective experiences with this subgenre, I limited my expectations when I started this novel. Was it worthwhile to read? Let's talk about it!

"Archangel: The Book of Mammon" starts with a counterterrorism unit pursuing illicit arms traffickers. The group's commander, Michael, starts having visions of a vaguely recognizable face and otherworldly entities in the midst of the hunt. He initially thought that his workload and stress were what was producing these hallucinations, but as time went on, he began to see them everywhere. Sara, a federal agent, is investigating a recent murder of a tycoon. Some lead indicates that the suspect is linked with the target that Michael’s team is pursuing. Michael and Sara are assigned to work together on the case. They both are very clever and smart in their own ways. During their investigation, they grow a bond between them and find truths of their origins that are vast and beyond their imagination.

I like my fantasy book when it answers my questions. I was astonished by the fact that Black Mike provided answers to every silly question aroused in my silly mind. From the prologue to the last chapter, the book was a page-turner for me; Its fast pace and the thrill kept me hooked tight till the culmination. The Characterization was spot on; I was completely drawn into Michael’s personality, his way of life, and his feelings. I felt incredibly connected with the POV of the human version of Michael; he was projecting my inner reactions to the fantasy world. I love the way subtleties and emotions are incorporated into the action scenes. It felt like I was watching a movie in my thoughts during some narration. I could clearly see various creatures moving about in my mind.

The writing was quite creative! Black Mike gave the entire story a thin layer of sarcasm. Numerous distinctive and fascinating aspects of the fantasy realm were expertly portrayed by him. He used the essence of well-known angels like Michael, Gabriel, and Mammon to create a beautiful story—except for the part about being a messenger of God. I was frequently taken aback by the provocative characters and actions in the novel. There were numerous narrations, in my opinion, that have a lot of charm; I saw a very clear vision of the angels' physical beauty and charm.

My list of favorite authors has expanded to include Black Mike, and I hope his series don't end abruptly as many others have. I am aware that the fantasy subgenre is stale and predictable, and readers have grown frustrated due to the poor quality, but if you used to enjoy urban fantasy and thrillers, I would highly suggest this book to you. Without a doubt, it has the capacity to take you on an amazing adventure. I give Archangel: The Book Of Mammon a rating of five out of five.

“The Light of Truth shows the truth,”

It’s the first time I read a book by this author, and I really enjoyed it. This addictive novel is an urban fantasy mixed with a thriller. It’s about an agent named Michael who discovered a secret about his past that will change his life, and will leave him with many questions that he needs to solve, after a series of events he’ll be assigned to work in a case with detective Sara. They will have to solve this puzzle, along the way they’ll discover secrets, make alliances, and, between investigations, fighting demons, they’ll end up involved in a whole battle between good and evil.

Michael, a very endearing character with whom we feel empathy from the beginning, is one of those characters that you’ll remember for a long time. The rest of the characters, like Gabriel and Sara, also steal part of the story, they’re really interesting, and you want to know more about them.

In this first novel we begin to outline the amazing world where Michael lives, a place that has a hidden side, with magic, demons, angels, and other supernatural beings, among other things.
It’s a great introduction, the world building is a very solid, well-structured. Black Mike imagination immerses us in a story where each element is perfectly placed, in a certain position, to play its role in the story. The action and mystery is always present, forcing us to hold our breath on each chapter. And this is only the beginning and I want to know what other adventures our characters will live in the future.

If you like fantasy, you want a well-written story that has a bit of everything, you must read this book, you will definitely enjoy it.

Archangel: The Book of Mammon by Black Mike focuses on special agent Michael Lieberman who is in charge of an anti-terrorism police unit. When his case crosses paths with another case that involves a murder, he must team up with Detective Sarah Wilson. These two are dynamic characters with rich development and personalities. These two cases open Michael’s eyes to the spiritual realm as he grapples with demons and is aided by the angel Gabriel as he must deal with Mammon, the demon prince of greed. Michael’s own family secrets will disrupt his goals and Michael will have to overcome them. This is one of the most thrilling and engaging novels I’ve read in a long time. It is fast-moving and full of action. It is absolutely mind-gripping! I am so excited that it seems to be the first of a series. This book needs to be expanded to even more heart-pounding stories. I’m pretty sure that after this book, I will read everything that Black Mike writes.

Black Mike’s writing is phenomenal. I found the story to be one of those that sucks you in right from the get-go and won’t release you until the story is over and I think a lot of that has to do with his writing style. It is full of imagery and moves at a very quick pace. Black Mike also blends genres together perfectly. Fantasy and thriller elements are laced throughout the novel. I love both of those genres but rarely see them together and done well but Black Mike has done it! If you are looking for a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat while taking you on an intense journey through the supernatural, then this is the book. I recommend buying it immediately. You won’t be disappointed!

If you’re looking for a new bingeable read then look no further than this beauty by @blackmikepoetry! This is a new urban fantasy thriller full of angels, demons, spirits and otherworldly entities set in modern New York.

The book follows a special agent, Michael, in the counterterrorism police unit chasing terrorists in illicit arms deals. Michael teams up with a federal agent, Sara, as their cases may be linked. The case starts to lead Michael into a world of spirits and demons, and he begins to learn of his own angelic heritage. He finds himself spiralling deeper into this secret world in an attempt to get answers.

I’m not usually an urban fantasy fan, but this novel combines the fantasy tropes I love with the high stakes and fast pace of a crime thriller and I couldn’t put it down😍 I was so intrigued by the plot, the characters, the chemistry between Michael and his love interest, and I adored that the entire book was written with undertones of sarcasm. The writing was cleverly done and I always found myself turning the page eager to find out what would happen next. This book has definitely contributed to the dark circles under my eyes 😂

I was SO pleased to find out that Mike will be writing another 6 books in the series, one based on each deadly sin and the demon paired with it. How am I supposed to wait?!

Thrilling

Michael Lieberman and Sara Wilson’s lives intertwine as they investigate related cases. As they continue working together, the story unfolds, and unveils deep secrets that are threats to their lives, and they have to save their skin. The author’s story telling ability, makes the action-packed thriller a must-read with compelling details and conspiracies. The character build up is exceptional which connects the reader better to the story, to understand the fantasies, and mysteries, in Michael’s and Sara’s lives.

If you like detective stories, this is the one for you, with an outstanding mix of supernatural elements that bring life to the tale. The book is filled with mysteries that Michael and Sara have to unravel, and it adds to the unpredictability of the book. It’s not all about the action and fantasy, as it also has a decent sense of humor, which makes it an enjoyable read. Despite being a modern or urban fantasy, the mix of the two sides of the story is exceptional and it speaks a lot to the author’s imagination and skill to put together the amazing plot. It’s easy to fall in love with the characters, and the story.

Archangel: The Book of Mammon is a new urban fantasy thriller filled with action, angels, demons, and spirits. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thrillers and urban fantasy!

This book takes place in New York and follows Michael, a special agent in the anti-terrorism unit who’s assigned to work with Sara, a federal agent. They work together to solve a case, which leads them to angels, demons, and spirits. Michael also discovers his own angelic heritage.

The characters were complex and well-written, and I adored them all. My favourites were Michael and Sara. They had incredible chemistry. Michael was such a strong character, and I loved his sarcasm.

Another highlight was the battle scenes. They were detailed and so well-written. I also loved all of the twists. I was constantly trying to solve the mystery.

This book was filled with complex and lovable characters, action, twists, and amazing world-building. I was a huge fan of the writing style and the magical world the author created. I’m looking forward to reading book 2 when it releases!

Archangel: The Book Of Mammon is a brilliantly recounted urban fantasy tale in a (really cool and sombre) New York setting.
A special agent and a detective set out to solve a supernatural mystery that involves angels, demons, & spirits. As they dig deeper, Michael’s own sinister secrets are unveiled.
I am a huge fan of fantasy and murder mysteries and this book is a perfect blend of both. The plot is engaging and it turns into an absolute page-turner as you keep reading.
I loved the writing: it is simple, smooth and compelling. It is action-packed and very entertaining…gave me Da Vinci Code vibes.
The world-building is great, the characters could have had a bit more depth to them though. However, the protagonist is very alluring and very book-boyfriend material. The protagonist’s pairing gave me Castle vibes, so if you love watching crime and supernatural dramas, this is the PERFECT read for you!
All in all, it’s a very entertaining, action-packed and plot-driven fantasy novel. Definitely worth a read!

Michael Lieberman is the special agent in charge of a federal anti-terrorism task force. Sara Wilson is a no-nonsense NYPD detective with a chip on her shoulder. Michael’s current case leads him into the dark world of spirits and demons while revealing a secret about his past. When Sara’s murder investigation crosses paths with Michael’s case, the two are forced to work together. New York City has always been considered the melting pot of society. Their case proves this statement true as the worlds of the natural and supernatural entwine.

Archangel: The Book of Mammon is the first in Black Mike’s Archangel fantasy thriller series. This action-packed urban fantasy explores the dark streets and alleys of New York and even darker underworlds. Black Mike loads his novel with dramatic chases, adrenaline-fueled fight scenes, and high-tech toys. Even though he deals with dark subjects and religious mythology, Black Mike’s thriller is not as gritty as other popular urban fantasies. Much of the story moves along at a quick pace, but it can get a little repetitive.

Disclaimer: I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway in exchange for a fair and honest review.

While this book was probably more of a 3.5, I couldn’t give it a 3.

I’m a huge fan of Supernatural. This gave me nods to both Jimmy becoming Castiel and the Michael storyline. I’ve always loved angel and demon movies like The Prophecy. This book hit all of those sweet spots.

The story had some great parallels to the modern political situation in the US. The term Pitcoin made me die laughing. The hot take on the global economy and the belief in money was great. I actually loved the idea of the insidious plot to destabilize the economy. It was fun to read.

This book really needs some additional editing. I saw a lot of “Brain” instead of “Brian” as well as sentences with missing and/or errant words. I definitely advise some clean up on this. While it didn’t usually impact my reading, it occasionally made me pause and come out of the story.

Overall, I enjoyed myself!

This will be the first book with a mix of
crime story and unseen magic world I enjoyed.  The storyline and two worlds  that impact these characters make sense. Not to mention how the main character Michael comes to discover  this magical  world. And the importance of him being an angel is so logical  and humourous. The story was  quick paced but often repeated points.

The book gave a rather deep look for a large issue that stems from Western society  And each conflicts are thorough with  dangers that impact the actual human world. Every chapter made the events more believable  and gave a stronger storyline. And overall gives some perspective about  the actions  others have. It was a story that was both heartfelt and unexpected  in the best way.

I'm glad this is something  I read.

My absolute favorite genre is good, old fashioned urban fantasy. This book seemed like it would be something I would enjoy, so I requested it. Michael is an interesting character, as is his romantic interest Sara and another character Gabriel. This is an interesting universe, and I was intrigued by the premise. However, I did find it a little annoying that some of the action was off-screen, as it were, or a scene would abruptly end, and it would be a couple of days later. I want to see what happened in between. Other than that, and maybe a little bit of too powerful for someone new at it, I quite enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

"Archangel: The Book of Mammon" by Black Mike is a wonderful and engaging fantasy thriller. The plot is strong and compelling and revolves around two central characters Michael Lieberman and Sara Wilson. Their love angle makes the plot all the more heart warming and rich. The author has created a wonderful storyline, vividly described and the characters are strong, intense and well crafted. It is a rollercoaster ride full of angels, demons, fairies, ancient beasts which add to the adventure, thrill, suspense and action. Cliff-hanging twists and turns keep the reader on edge and to turn the pages. Eagerly waiting for the sequel.

Amazing rollercoaster of an imagination surreal!

The plot grasps you and then you're in for a fabulous read, no holds barred. Pretty amazing reading material. This is most definitely a hard to put down book. The characters are cohesive covering each others back. I'm a new fan of Black Mike and I look forward to other material he pens. Thank you for this fabulous immersion towards the white light of goodness. Wow, what a splendid mind you have to be able to put strong conceptual thought on paper; the sense of wonder; making plausible that is beyond the veil and realistic common sense a reality. Suitable for all ages. No religious negativity. Pottsville PA_03012023.

I loveeedddd this book! Fantasy is my favourite genre of books but I also like a good detective/police procedural when I can find them. This was both worlds combined and it was done to perfection. This book has it all. Great characters, a fantastic storyline, great world building and not a single boring moment. I could go on forever about how much I enjoyed this book. If you like a good detective book with wit and interesting creatures this book is definitely for you. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I enjoyed Archangel overall but there were some rough parts to get past. There was some noticeable repetition of phrases and rather wooden dialogue. I don't know if it could have used another rewrite or some additional editing but regardless of those things I liked the characters, I was carried along by the story and I enjoyed the read.

3.5 ⭐️ rounded up to 4. Urban fantasy is not really my thing, however this book was pretty good 😊. Lots of action and world building which is highly enjoyable and moves the story along. I would have liked more relationship building between the characters, however maybe that is to come as this seems to be Book 1 in an upcoming series- which I would be happy to read.

First, I won this ebook in a giveaway, so thank you, Goodreads and publisher. I doubt I would have bothered to read it otherwise.

I gave it 5*s purely because it made a major plot point out of the US debt ceiling vote in an understandable (and, within its own terms, believable) manner. I especially liked the tortoise-like Senator Mitchell. But really, it was well written and a quick read.

It was fun to read, and I look forward to the next "sin."

Amazing read!

This is more about human nature than any paranormal or religious story.
The characters are well developed and relatable. The synopsis is an interesting view of humanity and it's religious/nonreligious leanings.
Certainly hope there is a book 2!!

Good Story but Disorganized

This book starts off on a high note with a fast introduction to what could be a fascinating world with a creepy undertone. Upon finishing the first few pages I was convinced that it would be very entertaining. It is not often a story starts out with such a burst of imagination. However, I feel like the story kind of lost it’s way. From the beginning to the end you almost struggle to recognize it as the same story. Not because of the lack of details, but because the tone changed so drastically. Along with that, I found the sentence structure to be a little strange at times. Sometimes I found myself reading the same sentence 2-3 times to correctly understand the intent. These two reasons are why I have rated it so low. I’m definitely not saying it was a bad story line, I am just saying that it was disorganized and would have been much better (in my opinion) if the same tone was used throughout the book. I would recommend this book to anyone who feels like they have been sticking reading books that lack creativity. This was a breath of fresh air in terms of original thought.

An unearthly investigation into an arms deal presents the reader with Michael Lieberman the lead agent tailing a suspect in a crowded market. The perp disappears but Michael is confronted with another character who activates a strange sight and he is able to see unworldly characters and spirits . Michael is compelled to work with detective Sara Wilson from the NYPD to solve this unusual case . Their relationship is strengthened when they share their past and tumultuous experiences from their childhood. Sara and Michael are forced to stop a demon’s growing power to control the financial world market. Michael’s secret is manifesting as he works with others to strengthen his skills . A brilliant urban fantasy with a plausible plot and a skilled braiding of known legends and biblical references. I look forward to more from this writer as Michael and Sara face off against other evil villains and ancient conspiracies.

ARC from author -NO SPOILERS! Adult paranormal, urban fantasy, Detective Thriller, Demons, Angels and Adventure. Book 1 with a happy for now, to be continued ending - no major cliffhanger!

** Triggers include violence and profanity **

Michael Lieberman, a special agent in charge of an anti-terrorism unit, has hidden depths which begin surfacing shortly before his Case coincides with that of Sara Wilson's.
They are forced to work together when a commonality ties both their respective personal pasts with the present Case.
What ensues is an edgy, exciting adventure which contains a perfect blend of natural and supernatural facets. A page turner that incorporates all my favourite genres; Paranormal, Urban Fantasy, Detective Thriller and Mystery.

The dynamic between Michael and Sara was superb and I enjoyed watching the parameters change as they became familiar with each other and the Case deepened with new challenges and revelations.
The characters both main and supporting are well thought out and relatable. The World Building intricate, easy to envision with the two planes colliding and the myths becoming reality.
I loved the dry humourish tone to the Book, which is fast paced, smooth, addictive with no waffle filler, each word counts.
This would translate well to the Big Screen either as a film or TV series.

There are plenty of revelations to come in my opinion and I suspect its on a need to know basis with each book potentially answering my present queries but always adding more.
I look forward to the next installment and will ensure to order Take Out when it is released as I will not be cooking that day, cannot wait to continue this series.

Loved it in short and Black Mike, who was a new to me author, has just had his fan base increased by one!
