Beatrice Cenci was the son of Francesco Cenci, an aristocrat who, due to his violent temper and immoral behaviour, had found himself in trouble with the papal justice more than once. In Rome, they lived in a mid 16th century mansion in Regola district, built over the ruins of a previous medieval fortified palace. Together with them lived also Beatrice's elder brother Giaco ...more

What "celebrated crime" is this book exactly about?
What the father did to the daughter?
What the daughter did to the father?
Or both?

For some reason, it bothered me and I couldn't enjoy it as much as the others, but isn't that how we're supposed to feel about crimes after all?

Vigilantism can be a dangerous thing. It sure had horrific consequences for Beatrice Cenci, two of her brothers, and her stepmother.

The celebrated crime here is their murder of Beatrice’s father Francesco. But his crimes – especially raping Beatrice more than once – were far worse. As far as anyone like myself is concerned, who’s sympathetic towards the Cenci family, Francesco deserved to die, while his family did not deserve their brutal fate.

This short factual account is written at a brisk pac
