We Need Doctors is a great book to help explain the importance of occupations like a doctor to young children. It teaches them that doctors help people stay healthy, and that they provide a service to all people. This book and others like it about occupations such as dentists, construction workers, and childcare workers, are paired well with When I Grow Up by Michael Berenstain. It is a very long poem about a young child exploring ideas about his future job, which any kid can relate to.
