Truth is the Soul of the Sun is a wonderful biography which I'm sure anyone with an interest in strong women in history will want to have in their library. It isn't a book for quick reading but is a perfect companion for those moments when you'd like to step out of your life and into another just for a little while. Please check it out. Recommends it for: people with a working knowledge of Egyptian society and religion at the time of Hatshepsut
I've finished the first section of six in this very long novel. It describes the childhood of Hatshepsut. Though somewhat slow-moving (I'm hoping the later sections pick up a bit), the author has done a wonderful job recreating a world so different from our own, but still populated by realistic human beings. Truth is the Soul of the Sun is the biographical novel of Hatshepsut, the female pharaoh who ruled ancient Egypt in the 18th dynasty. It is evident that an extraordinary amount of research went in to the compilation of the book, but it is difficult to present the huge pantheon of Egyptian deities and to translate the symbolism of the belief system to narrative form. The focus throughout the work is continually on the religious/philosophical beliefs of the time with some diversions exploring Hats ...more

Not enough stars for this book.I have long held a great deal of admiration for this queen who was the power in Egypt during some of its most exciting times. She is reviled by those who think she was not as good as she was and laughed at by others for ever assuming the throne. But like Wu of China she was a cornerstone for others to build from.may her light never die.
Her world was one of peace and working towards the fulfillment of Maat her balnace and justice.Wonderful book a great pleasure to rea
