Great book. Throughout the life of Magda Portal, we read about central aspects of Peruvian social history, especially in the first half of the 20th century. The book unveils Magda Portal's role in the shaping of Latin American leftist parties and feminism, while entering into the intimacy of her own struggles, as an individual, but also as a woman, and as a Peruvian declassé. Weaver's style is beautiful and fluid, making the reader accompany Magda throughout her adventures for most of the time. ...more
