Being born and bred in Arkansas, I’d really been looking forward to reading this book. It’s about Arkansas native Mary Lewis, who was born into poverty in the late 1890’s and overcame almost insurmountable odds to become a member of the Ziegfeld Follies, an actress in silent movies, and an opera soprano at the Met during the 1920‘s and 30‘s before succumbing to alcoholism and possible radiation poisoning.
