More complicated story but H was unfaithful and rather icky. Didn’t enjoy this.
pback-to-read
August 20, 2022Miranda Ferris, 24 and beautiful, has just learned to walk again after years spent in a wheelchair. Her distraught father persuades her to pretend to still be an invalid to gain the sympathy of dynamic Brett Sinclair who wishes to take over the family home and business.

This one had some good and bad points.
One of the good points was that you get the POV of not just the h, but the H the OW and the H's sister, all who play enough of a role in the story so that it's worthwhile to know all their motivations, even if you don't agree with them. (The sister seemed to think the world owed her a living because she lost both her son and her husband; meanwhile she admitted she was bored with her late hubby and was never very maternal. She seemed to get a kick out of messing with her brother's marriage to the h. As for the OW, what a bat crap mess!)
Another good point was the h admitting her feelings for the H, not trying to hide her attraction to him and pretend it doesn't exist, and well aware of her love for him, none of that "I thought I hated him but now i know I was kidding myself" nonsense.
The story also had quite a bit of drama, though some of it was over-the-top (like the h being kidnapped, courtesy of the OW), and started out with a con of sorts, as the h, who had been confined to a wheelchair for quite some time, was reluctantly convinced by her dad and aunt to pretend to still be wheelchair bound so that the H would hopefully feel sorry for her and wouldn't take over the family business. Meanwhile, her "disability" happened to be an Achilles Heel with him, another OW courtesy. (He blamed himself for her injuries in a car accident that was really her fault, and she had hoped to guilt grip him into marrying her, hence her animosity toward the h. (Ironically, the H marries the h in part to salve his conscience for what happened with the OW, if you can figure that one out.
What I didn't like was some of the H's behavior. it was obvious he had issues and could have used some therapy, because marriage was no way to solve his problems. He also cheats on the h (you don't see the scene or the woman, just his thinking about it afterward). apparently, he was confused about his feelings toward her and sought to forget in another woman's bed which not only didn't work but was a waste of time as he didn't enjoy it much.
I would have had him leave without finishing what he started. I don't mind a few close calls, but I HATE is someone actually gets naked and has sex, cheating just changes the whole atmosphere, takes asway from the HEA, at least for me. (He gets some comeuppance when the h - after the kidnapping - is in kind of an emotional deep freeze and for a while it looks like she wants a divorce, and that makes him miserable.
I also didn't like the h having a miscarriage because of what she went through, it just seemed so crummy. And while I was glad when the OW's life seemed to unravel after all the crappy stuff she did, (especially when a guy she was using found out and dumped her), the author gives the impression that she'll get a second chance and I don't think she deserved it!
There's also the OM, but he doesn't figure in the story much. He's obviously a player, and while the h was tempted to flirt with him to make the H jealous, she doesn't go through with it.
It's not bad, but I've read plenty better.

Социално отговорен романтичен роман с лек психологически привкус. Само за в краен случай, ако няма какво друго да се чете.
