We really wish we had this as hardbound since I've had to tape it back together a few times. All three children have loved this story as a regular read between three and six years old.

COUNTLESS readings and enjoy everytime, even as the Mom.

Written in a narrative style, but without anthropomorphizing the animals. Factual without being dry. Attractive artwork matches well to the text on each page.

As a forest fire burns through a forest, all of the grasses and small shrubs are killed off. The book explains how this effects the life of animals in what seems to be a disaster at the time. Soon, the forest begins to flourish even greater than it was before. The forest animals are able to have more grasses, trees, and shrubs than before the forest fire occurred. This book would be great in a science lesson dealing with food chains or the effects of fires or other "disasters" on an ecosystem.
