3.5 stars -- This is a sweet little illustrated rhyming story about a pilgrim who's searching high and low for the turkey on Thanksgiving morning. It has a happy ending--the turkey is a guest, not a meal--that will delight humane-minded families especially.
I was actually pleasantly surprised to see this compassionate message in a book that's 30 years old.
I chose this book because it is a short, fictional retelling of the First Thanksgiving. It is very cute and an easy read for K-2 students. It also includes rhyming words that make the words flow together. Also, it reminded me of "Saturday and Teacakes" because at the end it has a recipe that students can use to make cookies.
