I’ve always been fascinated by the fact that critics are perhaps one of the most hated group of people out there. They are the big bad wolves that come out to demean and tarnish all the good things you like, or sing praises to the things that you hate. I too am quite guilty of picturing them in much the same light.
As I grew older, I came to view their work in a slightly different light. While there definitely are “paid critics” out there who would say/write whatever they are told to do, or asses ...more

This box set was a gift from a friend who really loves Brandon Sanderson and wanted me to try his books - and now I have a new favourite author! I've reviewed each book separately, but overall it is important to know that this is one of those trilogies where you absolutely need to read all three books to get the entire impact of the story.

Anyone, Fantasy Fans
I purchased and consumed the Mistborn books as a trilogy, and I will review them as a trilogy. For the impatient, know that this trilogy is the best fantasy trilogy I have ever read.
The first book begins introducing us to very deep and sophisticated characters. The author has managed to attain a beautiful balance of developing characters as well as keeping the story moving towards its climax. The humour of 'the crew' as well as their relationships with each other keep the book engaging as you ba ...more

So here we are with very short review of Mistborn Trylogy by Brandon Sanderson. If you want to avoid spoiler stop reading it now. It gave me headache. The beginning was really hard to grasp, the font was awful and something inside me screamed "meh" whenever I tried to read it. In the meantime I read Night Angel Trylogy and it was getting even harder to actually find anything good in Final Empire (first book of Mistborn Trylogy). But I didn't give up and after literally hurting through first 100

It was a nice read but I probably expected too much with all the praise the book is getting.
It is a solid Fantasy book with a nice plot and interesting characters and a nice world-building but strangely the plot and the characters are also the weak points of the series in my opinion.

Since I read this as an ebook and I couldn't accurately determine how many pages I had to go while plodding along, I was afraid at one point that Amazon had tricked me and there was, in fact, no end. I wondered if I'd simply continue reading the Mistborn trilogy until the end of time. Alas, I did reach the conclusion of this epic trilogy today.
The pros:
*No plot holes that I can recall. Sanderson clearly planned out the series and didn't write it willy-nilly as he went along. The plot line was we ...more

Like a lot of people I suspect, I first came across Brandon Sanderson because sheer bloody mindedness is driving me to finish Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series (14 books is ridiculous but I started reading them in my university days and feel an irrational need to get through to the end).
Sanderson was the author chosen to complete the series after Jordan's passing. After reading The Gathering Storm and Towers of Midnight I decided to give his newest novel, The Way of Kings a go and really like ...more

I have such mixed feelings about this series.
The first book (Final Empire) was really amazing. Lots of action, and a solid conclusion despite leaving so much unfinished for the rest of the trilogy. The world-building was some of the best I've ever read, and the magic system was incredible. I liked the entire cast of characters.
The second and third books really suffer from poor pacing. In the first 2/3 of the second book, we slog through Vin/Eland's relationship insecurities. And, I really do m ...more

Brandon Sanderson created an entirely unique fantasy world that uses metals and allomancy instead of sword and sorcery. Another reviewer on goodreads summarized allomancy better than I can (I ramble) here goes:
"Speaking of the magic that was probably the most intriguing part of the book for those who have read a lot of fantasy and get the same magic systems over and over. Magic is fueled by trace minerals that are ingested by those with the power. A Misted can only ingest one type of metal but a ...more

Holy mother of good this trilogy was good.
Realistic female protagonist, check.
Actual internal and external conflict with consequences, check.
Realistic characters portrayed in a realistic fashion, check.
Fully realized world without arbitrary, cool things for the sake of being cool, check.
I'll admit, at first, I was dubious. The first book is a slow burn up until about a third of the way through, then the rest of the series takes off like a rocket. If you haven't read this, read it. Do it now. Sto ...more

I ever don't write reviews here but honestly, the exposition is painful.
About the best thing i could say is find an editor.
A lot of the reviews mention how often the author tells you exactly how x is doing y with z and it's just not necessary especially at the end of the third book.
I really wanted to like this series but I was really frustrated by the middle of the third book.
Could have been so much more.

The best fantasy I’ve read in years!
This trilogy is by far and away the best I’ve read in recent memory. The characters are memorable and human, the plot is strong, and the story is compelling and full of surprises. I can not recommend this highly enough, it was incredible, and one of the rare series that I will be coming back to reread in the future.

Loved this series. I'm blown away. Mistborn has set such high standards for my fantasy books, I don't think other books can meet the standards
This book is a highly intense journey. Mistborn is such a well built, wonderfully described, robust voyage. You are taken to another world, one that is both beautiful and ugly, simple and complex. The characters are extremely solid and likable, and you are very often held wondering what turns the story will take next- one of my preferred features in any book. I believe any fantasy fan will enjoy this journey, though it may take a while to get through. It’s a very detailed world, but well worth t
