About the author

Nicky Epstein is a knitting designer and author of numerous books on knitting. She is known for her creative combinations of knitting stitches, and for the colorful patterns often found in her sweaters, especially involving applique of separately knitted motifs.[1] In 2005, she was given a prestigious award by the National NeedleArts Association. In 2006, her work was featured in a retrospective fashion show at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City. Since the (winter) Holiday 2005 issue, Epstein has written a regular column in Vogue Knitting called simply "Nicky Epstein".

As always Nicky brings a smorgasbord of creativity to her books, which I absolutely adore about this woman. Definitely will be using some of these ideas in future projects. It's a work which is better geared to advanced knitters and could perhaps overwhelm some novices. However, if you desire an innovative approach this offers a variety of choices from simple to complex which will make any gifts delightful to their recipients and pure joy to their creators.

Received as a Christmas gift and just started my 1st pattern from the book (bulky cabled hat). Book sections are divided into patterns for kids, the girls, the guys, and special friends.

As with most books, there is a combination of hits and misses: patterns I can't wait to try, mixed with several that make me think "Now who would want this?" The latter category is thankfully not prevalent in this book: really only 2 patterns I don't imagine I'd ever consider making. One of the high points is a highly modifiable/personalizable pattern for a knit afghan, with charted patterns for various letters and other designs.

Nice ideas, but nothing really grabbed me...though I would consider whipping up the Travelin' Man Hats (Hit the Road features micro-mini plastic cars, Come Fly with Me features micro-mini plastic planes!) for the right kid! Fun!
