I am not sure if the reason I disliked this book was because of the poor plot--with far too many storylines that impossibly lead back to each other--or the repeatedly and overused cliches. Is this just modern British lit, or did I have the ill-luck to pick a terrible book?

What makes it worse is that this was not the author's first book (as I expected it had to be for it to be so horrid).
