I picked this up randomly to get more familiar with an example of our junior nonfiction collection. It's a good introduction, especially for middle school or high school students. Even reading it as an adult though, I found it interesting. Obviously it's a surface treatment, but with more authority than a wikipedia page. Excellent (though few) pictures and maps.

This nonfiction book about the Spanish American War is not necessarily inaccurate, but it does mostly only tell one side of the story. It is clearly written by an American author with the perspective that the United States is rightfully a dominant world power. This book discusses the important battles between the US and Spain, but it does not really show much of the perspective of either the Spanish or the natives of Cuba.
