Sometimes it is nice to read books with title that has broad meaning. But sometimes it's broadness means a lot of things and sometimes when you are reading the title doesn't corelate with the content.

I liked the plot and story so I am giving it three stars for that. The characters and their relationship was too underdeveloped for my taste. Like they meet instant lust go on two dates talk about nothing lie to each other some and then fuck. Then separated a bit and back together at end for I can’t live without you blah blah… I guess I missed where they had any connection more than fucking. Overall it is still an enjoyable plot and a short easy read. It is spendy for how short it is though in my humble opinion.

This novella was twisted as FUCK!! In the beginning I was really into it and liking it since it was kinda reading like a gay thriller movie. Then around 65%, it became so far-fetched to the point of ridiculousness that it turned into a gay soap opera.
Even with the inconsistent plot, lack of romance, and overpricing; I did enjoy this because of all the twists.

Eventhough it was written in 2009, this felt like an old book. It was very Harlequin in plot and some of the wording. I don't mean Harlequin in Gender portrayal only in story telling style. It was amusing to see how far the genre has come in it's writing.

August 3, 2009All right, at the beginning I had this story all wrong. I was so sure of what it was happening that it was surprising, but nice, realizing that the author managed to bring me around where he wanted and then presented me with the real story.
Noah is the classical neglected son of a wealthy man, more interested in being a perfect politician in front ot the public opinion, than a good father in his private life. All in all Noah managed to grew up in a fine man, a chemical engineering that would like anything more than being left alone from his father as he has always done. But now Senator Wiltson is running for President, and Noah has to play the role of the good son... only to come back one night and find a killer in his apartment. The man, Lord, says that he was hired by the good Senator to get rid of the inconvenience that is having a gay son. Yes, since even if Noah has always maintained a low profile, he is gay and this is not acceptable for the political aspirations of his father. Only that Lord has his own reason to not like the Senator and he is double playing: he will not kill Noah, on the contrary he will give the man all the evidence he needs to find shelter in his grandfather's home and being safe from that moment on.
Two months later Noah is living with and working for his grandfather and he meets Cain; the man is the new head of security for his grandfather's chemical firm and he seems to have come out from nowhere two months before. He has no past, everything is new around him, his work, his home... And to Noah, Cain remembers a lot the man of the night, Lord. Is it possible that Cain is trying to bring on the mission he refused months before? or maybe Cain wants to be sure that Noah is safe and sound? or maybe he is not the same man? It seems impossible, too many things are similar, the wrapping up of the story it's obvious from the beginning...
The contraposition between Noah and Cain is quite clear: Noah is the gentle and quiet man, the one who doesn't like to be under the spotlight, a man who likes to be the cherished and cuddled lover. Noah is not an imposing figure, he doesn't mind to be led and directed, he has not the core to be independent. On the other hand Cain is the classical leader, forceful but caring, a man who will protect who is under his care with all his own. Cain likes to be in control, both in his public than private life, he is really convinced that only him can be the savior of the world. Maybe a little proof that he is not invincible can be a good thing to him, but all in all, he is the perfect partner for Noah.
Noah and Cain are nice characters, but if I'm to be true, I think that someone else stole them the scene. I don't want to spoil the story, enough to say that there is another man, Mars, a skinny and skittish former hustler, that even if he has only few scenes, he has probably the most interesting role of all the book. Noah and Cain's love story is good and enjoyable, but I found myself waiting for Mars and his lover to appear on the scene, and in the end, I was really hoping for the author to write a book all for their story. A story that started before Noah's one, and that will have its happily ever after more or less at the same time.

4 ⭐️ Re-read rating
I still enjoyed the book, and as it has been a few years since I read it I couldn’t recall anything.
Have to say I didn’t love it quite as much the second time. I didn’t need to have anymore of Noah’s father in the story, he turned my stomach quite enough I hope he gets a really nice cellmate who wants to be his new best friend. Again couldn’t get on-board with the up close and personal activities when Noah has had the snot beat out of him.
The book was really fun to read, it was pretty fast paced because of the length I can accept that. The twists to the plot left your wondering who Lord and Cain really were. I do wish Noah's father had been developed more, but it wouldn't have added that much to the story. I'd love to read more about Mars, and how he and Lord met, where they went after they left the US. My one criticism is, I seriously doubt anyone would be interested in full on sex with a couple of broken ribs, a kidney injury and a face full of bruises.

Not too long and not too short. This story about Noah and Cain has just the amount of action in a story I was looking for after the previous book I'd read I sure as Hell need it.
I really don't have much more to say on this story other than I really liked it and it's was a nice l'il piece of writing for me to bite into.

I really liked it but the rescue was a bit of a let down. Also a bit bummed that I dont think we found out who in the beginning (if you read the story you will understand) who saved Noah's life. Did i miss it that or was it really not answered.
I would love a prequel with Mars and Lord.

Being the gay son of a presidential hopeful is difficult in the best of circumstances but when the senator hires a hitman to make you disappear in order to ride a sympathy vote the impossible turns deadly. When the mysterious “Lord” shows up to assassinate Noah and then turns the table by giving him incriminating evidence against his father, Noah hightails it to his Grandfather’s estate and begins work in his labs under intense security. There he meets the new head of security, Cain. Cain has an intense and instant attraction for Noah and vows to keep him safe at all costs. However, the senator is not done with his son and despite every precaution being in place, Noah realizes he is in more danger than anyone every thought.
Death Or Life by T. A. Chase is a second edition that had the bones of a good story with some unfortunate flaws. Cain and Noah are a compelling couple that have hints of a dominant/submissive flavor that only makes their relationship that more exciting. While theirs was an insta-attraction, thankfully this was not some lame insta-love trope played out with a few mystery elements thrown in for good measure. Instead there was a great deal of action, with more than a few surprising twists which include the reappearance of Lord who turns out to be much more than just some killer for hire.
In fact had the author done some editing to this novel my review would be much different. Instead, I’m afraid that there are more than a few instances where different plot points seemed just to far out there to be plausible. For instance, Cain is described more than once as stern, lethal and rigid—a no-nonsense chief yet despite all the heightened alerts on the campus, Noah’s father sails right in with three goons and whisks Noah away right under their noses. If that weren’t enough to give me pause, Noah’s beating is rather visceral and on page so when his broken bleeding nose and split lip, fractured ribs and assorted bruises are described I certainly believed it. Yet a few pages later when Cain rescues him we see evidence his ribs are hurting but then given a description of how they are giving each other deep, long lasting kisses—with a split lip, multiple bruises and a broken nose? I just couldn’t buy that. Nor could I get on board two days later when Cain nearly bent Noah in half for a sex scene that simply could not have happened with two fractured ribs.
Death Or Life had all the makings of a great mystery novel with intense action and more than its fair share of interesting and shady characters. However, a second review of this previously published work for what were some obvious flaws could have made this novel really shine. Author T.A. Chase is a good writer—this is simply not one of her best.

Noah Wiltson’s father has hired a killer Lord, to take care of his embarrassing little “problem”, his gay son. As his father is running for President apparently, Senator Wiltson has decided to go for the sympathy vote, the grieving father! The only problem, Noah isn’t the only person supposed to die that night, someone has put a contract on Lord’s head. It’s unfortunate for all parties that neither one of them dies that night!
Noah goes to his grandfather’s to hide out because he knows his father won’t touch him whilst he’s there. Noah works in his grandfather’s research facility knowing he has a full security detail to keep him safe. Noah’s grandfather Henry LeClair knows he’s gay and doesn’t care which makes Noah feel safe enough to introduce his daughter Lindsay to him. Noah agreed to father a child for his best friend and her wife.
Cain Packert is Henry’s head of security and as such feels it’s his duty to introduce himself to Noah since he’s the one protecting him. They meet up at Henry’s birthday party where they spend time talking and getting to know each other. After getting assurances from Cain that he wouldn’t let on about Lindsay and her mother’s Noah agrees to go on a date with Cain. This is massive as he’s always had to hide who he is and who he prefers to date! Both Cain and Noah are intensely attracted to each other right from their first meeting and the feelings just intensify as time goes on. Cain and Noah are both shocked when Lord turns up to warn them of the length’s the Senator is likely to go to because of the contents of a certain file he’s sure Lord has.
Death or Life is one book I’m very happy has been re-released. I’m not going to go any further with my review as there are far too many spoilers and I will not do that to anyone! Cain and Noah are a compelling couple that have hints of a dominant/submissive flavor that only makes their relationship that more exciting. Instead there was a great deal of action, with more than a few surprising twists which include the reappearance of Lord who turns out to be much more than just some killer for hire.

If I had to describe this book in just a few words it would be "off the chain". This is a book that mainly revolves around 3 men.
The first man is the reason all these men come together to begin with. His name is Noah. Out of every one in this book I would have to describe him as innocent. He would be the only one that I say has not done anything other be himself and has ended up with the biggest mystery surrounding him and likely to get him killed. And all of that is because he is gay.
The other two men I would say this book mainly revolves around are Cain and Lord. These two men are completely opposites on one hand and then on the other hand they are more alike then they ever even really considered. One of these two men is killer that did it legally through the CIA and the other man is a killer that did it for hire for the highest payer. But are they both bad? Are they both good? Or is it that one is good and the other is bad? These are questions I found myself asking through the whole book. Well those questions and so many more.
This is a book that has so many twist and turns that you feel like a pretzel by the time you have finished reading it and have untwisted all the different webs. This is definitely a book that keeps you on your toes from the beginning to the end. I also found it was a book that has you second guessing everything you thought you had figured out. I was definitely an exciting and interesting read.

Not sure I can accurately describe this one. I love T.A. Chase novels and that hasn't changed ... it's just "Death or Life" was so confusing at times that my mind would rather have flittered to another subject than try to sit down and work it out. The plot was pretty straight forward, the action, too, it was only the characters.
There were I think what I could consider to be six main characters. All male. In fact, there wasn't even a female character in the novel, except for references to Noah's mother and his daughter Lindsey. Extremely briefly Lindsey shows up and speaks maybe 3 sentences. The rest of the characters are male and I kept getting confused as to who was doing what action or being in one scene.
There were whole scenes that went by with all action being done by 'he.' This was a deliberate obscurity which I can understand because I've done it a few times in my own novels. The only thing is, there were so many men in the novel I couldn't figure out who the possibility of the 'he' even was. Sometimes I thought it was Cain. Sometimes another killer [a bad guy:], and then sometimes just someone who was keeping an eye on Noah [though we don't know exactly why:]. In retrospect I can see and understand why, and realize that they are all in their own way true. It just didn't make any sense when reading the novel for the first time, though. =/

Um,I wish this would have been Mars and Lord's story instead. Cain and Noah were just sort of...boring. And maybe I just missed something but the whole thing made no sense to me. Why did Noah's father want to kill him in the first place? I know at the end of the book he wanted to kill him because of the folder. But what reason did he have for originally hiring Lord to kill Noah. Second, who paid Lord more to not kill Noah?
At first the book is rather cagey, letting you think that Lord and Cain are the same person. Instead you find out they are long lost brothers. I liked Lord a lot better. They both had the same job - assassin - but Cain is rather self-righteous and believes his were rightful kills because they were sanctioned by someone in the government, so there was no way he could have killed an innocent <---the sarcasm dripping from that is all me. But Lord is a killer of innocents because he wasn't murdering people for the government. Lord is much more honest about who he is and what he has done and I really just liked him better. Noah wasn't bad, he just wasn't interesting at all. Mars was broken and tragic and someone I really wanted to read about. *le sigh*

At first the book is rather cagey, letting you think that Lord and Cain are the same person. Instead you find out they are long lost brothers. I liked Lord a lot better. This was a book seemed to be a little lacking for TA Chase, but overall it was pretty good. This book just did not seem to have the usual excitement and interest as most books I’ve read from this author. The plot was great and there was some mystery in it but it just did work for me. There didn’t seem to be much connection between the MC’s, Noah and Cain. In fact I felt more of a connection between the secondary characters, Lord and Mars than Noah and Cain. The writing style as usual made it easy to read but sadly I just didn’t feel anything for the MC’s.

Good Story! Hoping for a Second with Mars and Lord...
This was such a good story from the first sentence to the last one. This story and it's characters had me hooked. Cain and Noah were likeable and even when Noah backed away I was still rooting for them. This story had intrigue, action, betrayal, love and murder it was very well written easy to follow and the secondary characters really help to make this story. I hope there's a story for Mars and Lord to see what happens next with them because there is definitely more to their story.

The kiss between the hired killer and his intended victim, plus the almost complete lack of reaction to the fact his father wants him dead put me off almost immediately. I kept reading until I was half-way through but the pacing felt off and I just couldn't connect to the MCs at all.

very satisfying. no surprises, we know who the baddies are right from the start. good chemistry between various protagonists. not too soul searching or emotional, just a good solid read.

It took me a looong time to finish this book (69pages)...
I don't know why exactly but, even if the premises to enjoy this book were all there, I wasn't taken at all by Cain and Noah's story.

I liked the concept and the characters. But i felt that the storyline was a little disjointed and a little haphazardly arranged. Otherwise it was good.
