Although Harry Sanderson has lived on a ranch in northern New Mexico with Mike Pruitt for many years, he still doesn't know how to describe their relationship-even to himself. Are they live-in lovers? Partners? Boyfriends? There isn't a word to adequately describe their mutual devotion and his quiet, deeply held feelings for Mike. Mike is no help. He thinks that what they ...more

This was a wonderful story about two normal everyday men loving and supporting each other. Harry and Mike have known each other for over 20 years and for the last 7 they've lived together. They are friends, lovers and partners but even after all their time together Harry still has issues with their relationship as far as how others might view it. This reticence to be totally 'out and proud' is a trait that Mike doesn't share yet totally respects. Pretty much set in his ways at this stage in his ...more

Very well written and emotional story centered on two men who have made a life together one day at a time. Not a lot of graphic sex in this story but it is a love story that doesn't really need it to propel the connection along. It is done well in a different way.

I would love to see more of Harry and Mike and get more info in the backstory that is alluded to throughout this tale. With 20+ years together and 7 as a couple, as the voyeuristic reader that I am, I would like a front row seat to tho

I remember with pleasure the first story I read by Jenna Hilary Sinclair. It was not a romance, it was a coming of age story about a teenager who had some real big trouble when he found out he was gay in a small town USA were he was pretty isolated, and about his mother, who wanted so much to help his son. To help these two arrived like two Angels on a Christmas day, Harry and Mike. The time were the late '80 and Harry and Mike were not some out and proud gay men who fight against society. They ...more

“Light of my life”

Reading this and checking the author's livejournal made me think that this story either started as a fan fiction for Brokeback Mountain or at least an homage to Jack and Ennis. Because when I read it, I couldn't help to think that the story felt so Jack-and-Ennis like or how I imagined Jack and Ennis would be if they ended up being together after all these years.

It was wonderful still, homage or not. I thought the author w

This was a sweet love story about an older, established couple that is very well written. It's not mushy, nor is it very explicit. It is very clear though that Harry and Mike are very much in love with each other. There is a lot of introspection here, with Harry in how he sees his relationship with Mike and how he thinks others see their relationship. The supporting characters are well done. I really do agree with the other reviewers in feeling that something was missing. This would have been a ...more

3.5 stars actually. Just can't rate it up to 4 though.

It took me a while to get into this one. And considering it's a relatively short story that was a bit of an issue. By the time the characters were starting to grow on me the book was finished. So, while it was a nice read, it just didn't quite get there for me. (It could have something to do with the way they were speaking, because that did grate a little to be honest).
Calm and sincere story about an established couple. 3.5 stars

I've been a fan of Jenna Hilary Sinclair since I read Admit One. I love the authenticity of the voices of her characters. I first read about Mike and Harry in the Christmas short story, Gifts of the Season, which I really liked. Mike Pruitt and Harry Sanderson have known each other for 20 years. They have lived together the last 8 of those years on their ranch in New Mexico. This story arc takes place over several months in 1990-91 and encompasses several important landmark events in their lives ...more
It's not often I read a romance with an established relationship in the center of it, but this story has one, and it's quite enjoyable to read about long-lasting,long-loving individuals now and then. Love and romance has more to it than the newly in love feeling. In particular I liked how Harry, one of the main characters and the character whose POV the reader gets to follow, put it, you've got to want togetherness in order to make it work, and I completely agree. Sometimes it's not enough, but ...more

Told by Harry, in a distinctive cowboy drawl, this is the story of Harry and Mick, mostly based in the early 90's. A 3.5* read for me, definitely a story that grows as you read it.
I thought that maybe there was an earlier book about these two as there was a lot of references to a 20 year history, fights, marriages, deaths, split families - all of which sounded like a damn good angsty story.
Anyway, Harry's history (mostly hinted at) has meantthat he is fighting shy of being gay, preferring to sta
This book was good, but had potential to be great. This is the story of Mike and Harry. They have known each other for 20 years and been together for 7 and this is just a reaffirmation of their relationship. It was sweet and thoughtful and nice to read about 2 guys who are solid in their relationship. So why only the 3 stars? It felt like I was missing something so much so that I stopped to check to see if this was maybe the second book in a series. (Which it turns out there is a prequel, althou ...more

No angst, no drama; just a quiet story of two men who love each other and have made a life together. They are that rough on the outside kind of guy that show their love by taking care of their families and those they love, the words just make them uncomfortable. This look into their lives take place in the early 1990s and at that point they have been together eight years and have known each other for twenty years. They may not be good at expressing their feelings with words, but they lived toget ...more

This isn't your typical mm romance in that it follows an established couple over the course of about a year. The character are well rounded and not without flaws but fit together perfectly. Harry is the main voice that you hear throughout the book as it deals with issues that he never thought of until his partners son is getting married. He likes their insulated life's away from the world and the story shows him grow as a person.

I would have loved to have read more about how they got together w
I fell in love with Jenna Hilary Sinclair's writing while reading Admit One. In this story of Harry & Mike, she does not disappoint! These characters are real men in real situations. They are not perfect but accept each other's foibles with true trust and love.

I do have one teeny, tiny complaint. While hints were given about Harry and Mike's past, the information was not enough to answer the many questions that arose in my mind. I guess I just want to know more about these two wonderful cha

This is a sweet, sexy, emotional, not-your-average gay story. The men aren't young and they aren't likely to change their ways anytime soon, and that was perfect for the storyline. I really came to like Harry and Mike, and how they handled their relationship and those around them, just being who they were with a touch of stubbornness and wishful thinking. I don't think it's as common to read about strong, established relationships, and it was a really nice change, though I would really love to s ...more

this was okay but didn't move me any further... Okay book is all about Harry's feelings about Mike and their relationship and especially how great it is; That's nice the first time he tells you about it. Well, 'telling' is a little too much cause Harry isn't exactly talkative. he's more of the 'thinking' kind and the 'meaningful' look...uh uh.
But after the 3rd declaration of his love, it gets kinda tedious and that's the feeling I had when finishing this book: it's nice.... in a boring kinda way

This is a very quiet romance between to men. There isn't any angst or drama nor is there is sparkling gimmicks either. I could really feel the love and strength of their relationship over the years as they live their lives. I love the fact that neither guy is in your face about their relationship and they aren't out to prove anything. They are more concerned about living their life together and enjoying being with each other. I would love to see more of these two and see move of the backstory bu ...more

This story is unusual in that it begins with a couple that is already together and very much in love. Their background is hinted at, always in a way that entices and deepens their characters, but we never get the full story. What we do get is their slow, steady progression toward feeling free to be themselves -- to being a committed, stable gay couple -- in the eyes of the world. It works for them, and it worked for me.

Loved the maturity of the MCs in this story. The story voice was realistic and did a lot to enrich the story. The matter-of-factness in Mike and Harry's pasts and how it effects the way they live their present lives is perfectly woven in. Fantastic character building. Subtle, but deep. After finishing this great story, I'm looking for more works by this author.

A very nice story about two really average, normal guys who've been living together for a number of years. Harry is outwardly more sensitive about being gay and in love with a man, both having been previously married. The strength of their love and the little ways they show affection in daily ordinary circumstances, makes this a very heartwarming story to read.

2.5* I couldn't get into it. Didn't feel any connection to the characters. It was basically just vignettes of their life after having been together for 7 years.

For years Jenna Hilary Sinclair approached creative writing as if she were looking over the edge of a cliff—the view was terrifying but seductive. She couldn’t comprehend how anyone could compose a complex plot and have the patience to put it on the page. But one day she sat down, picked up a pen, and much to her astonishment, a novel began to take shape.

Since that day, Jenna’s been in an exhilara
