Born and raised poor in the South, segregation. His father finds work in Detroit (auto industry) so the family moves there where he visits a guy and learns about boxing. He competes, win, and goes professional, eventually winning. Like Ali, war stops him. He however enlists and is protected.
After the war he no longer has it and is not interested in training. Retires but has to go back due to TAXES! Eventually he is a door greeter in Las Vegas. Insightful, pictures. RIP.
