He was brought up in Zimbabwe and returned to Britain where he completed a doctorate in organic chemistry. In 1980 he became involved in children's publishing where he began designing innovative books with interactive elements and repetitive phrases.

A fairly simple, but pretty cute counting book using farm animals. At least one animal (sometimes more) is hidden behind a flap, allowing you to explore counting with a class / pupil - how many mice? 1? but it says 2 tiny mice in the book, where could the other one be?
If you are using farms as a topic then this book could be handy for developing early numeracy, and as it shows both the numeral and number word it could also help with number recognition as well as counting.
Being a lift the flap book, it is unfortunately quite delicate and easily damaged.
This is a great book to introduce children to numbers and counting. The illustration makes the book appealing to children and allows them to easily count the number of animals in each picture. Once the children have studied the pictures, they can look at the text to see how the number is written aswell as how to write the words for the animals. This book would be suitable on a book shelf for children to read at leisure to support their counting skills.
One of the better Rod Campbell books that I've come across. Perfect for farm animal noises and a basic counting introduction for toddlers. Although the flaps are made of strong card and fixed really well, we' be managed to wrenches couple off.
