Two stories that revolve around vets who can communicate with animals.
Both stories were a wee bit preachy about the wrongness of keeping wild animals as pets. But they were very good and the preachyness was nowhere near the level of Diana Palmer (he-he)
The first story is more of a suspence/mystery than the second one.

"Rocky Mountain Miracle" by Christine Feehan ***** 5 stars!
I am not a fan of Ms. Feehan. So i was taken aback that I enjoyed this one as much as I did!
Maia is a travelling vet with more than just a passing affinity to animals.
Cole is a man with scars. The deepest are the ones left by his sociopath of a father.
The story starts with him returning to his home town after learning of the death of his wealthy father and the fact that he is now the caretaker of a 14 year old brother he never knew existed. But he's a true man's man and plans to do what he can to change Jase's life for the better.
Maia ends up getting snowed in on the ranch with Cole and Jase just before Christmas. All would have been fine except that there seems to be someone else snowed in on the ranch with them...

I loved the MCs and Jase. Both Maia and Cole have reason to be wary of getting close to others, but they do communicate and their romance was a gradual (even for a novella) almost cautious fall into love. There's even a wonderful epilogue, and I was impressed with the way CF dealt with his 'issues'.

"A Touch of Harry" by Susan Sizemore **** 3.5 stars rounded up
This story is only about half the length of the first story. Harry comes to town only to be almost run down by the local vet and then tranquilized by some dog thieves.
It's no secret to the reader that he's a wolf shifter. Lucky for him he has the ability to mess with people's memories, of he would have been outted ages ago. But he'll find that his powers don't work so well on Marj, the vet.
At first Harry was adamant (in his thoughts) that he only wants to mess around with Marj, but it's pretty obvious that he is under her spell from early on.

" "You're not afraid of me, are you? Not one little bit.
I'm a werewolf you know," he added seriously.
"And I'm Dr. Doolittle," she answered""

Safety is good for both stories.

I really didn't expect to love this anthology. Neither author is among my preferred, and their stories sound often weak to me.
Consider my surprise when I read Ms Feehan's novella and realized she could break the mold and write about strong women and men without any absurd bond. Her novella is the best of the two, because it maintains a dark undercurrent and doesn't solve everything with a sappy final syrup. Engaging.

The other novella was the usual fluffy and silly story of the Xmas variety. Cute, but barely worth remembering.

Good as a Kindle deal.

A good novella by two awesome paranormal, romance writers. I enjoy Christine Feehan books, but I had never read the other author. Both stories turned out to be very good. The first is quite different from CF usual style. I still found it engaging. The second book was a typical love, and happy ending story without the deeper angst. I gave this a 3.5.

This book was AMAZING! I had high expectations since I (usually) enjoy Christine Feehan's writing, and the book description hinted at an abusive past for the hero. Often when I go into a book with high expectations, I'm disappointed, but this book exceeded my wildest dreams. It's honestly one of the best books I've read in a few years.

Let me start by reviewing "Rocky Mountain Miracle" by Christine Feehan. If it were possible to give 10 stars out of five, I would. If you enjoy reading hurt/comfort stories, this is the book for you. If you like reading about hurt (physically and emotionally) heroes finally finding and accepting love, this book is a must read. If you like dark bad boys that are secretly angsty with a low self-esteem, then you simply have to read this story.

I adore hurt/comfort stories that feature an abused man finally finding love, so this book was a treasure for me. The author doesn't shy away from showing that the hero is hurting, either. Nothing is graphically described, but there's nightmares, there's marks from the past. And it's not a few paragraphs mentioning this theme buried in a long novel. The story starts out with the brothers dealing with their past abuse right away on page one.

The absolute best thing about "Rocky Mountain Miracle" is that you get two boys in one story here. Cole is the older brother (probably in his mid-late thirties, I'd guess). He can be hot and sexy, the dark bad boy. The strong one that won't talk, but is secretly all mushy on the inside. And the sex scenes with him are hot. But then you also get as a bonus his little brother, Jace. Jace is sweet and fragile and emotional. The little cutie you just want to cuddle and love. Because of the set-up, you get both types of abused boys in one story. And you also get protective, brotherly love. SCORE!

The other amazing and refreshing thing in both of these stories is that the female characters are STRONG, good people. People I'd like to be friends with. They actually aren't annoying in any way, which is so rare in romance novels. In both stories, the girls have a special power. They're brave. They're not whiny, and they're not push-overs.

So "Rocky Mountain Miracle" gets a perfect score from me. I only wish that there were more stories in this series to read, because I could read a scenario like this over and over again.

I wasn't sure if I was even going to read the second story in the book, but figured since I'd paid for it, I might as well try it too. I was surprised to find I really enjoyed it as well. The author's writing style is very relaxed and easy to read. "Harry's Law" features a world of werewolves and other werecreatures. The hero was quite likable. The lead female was also strong, confident, and a good, nice person. Perhaps it helps that both lead females in these stories have a special connection to animals, and I am definitely an animal person. Anyway, it was a fun story. Apparently it fits into a series, and the story was enough to intrigue me about the series. It has vampires and werecreatures? I'm wondering if it's a bit like the Sookie Stackhouse novels in the world created, with vampires and were-creatures. The were-creatures seemed a lot like that to me, anyway. The story worked just fine as a stand alone and did not require any knowledge of the universe, but it intrigued me enough to add the series to my wish list.

If you're even considering reading this book, do it! You will not be disappointed! I loved it!!!

Maia Armstrong has a gift. She is the perfect veterinarian. She seems to be able to heal any wounds on any animals. She also has an uncanny ability to calm the animals down while she works with them. So, why if she is so good does she travel from place to place filling in for other doctors? Why doesn't she have her own clinic?

Oh, and did I mention that she is beautiful? Not only that she is a great drummer. When she is not working she likes to go to the local bar and fill in with local bands as their drummer. She is really good.

Then there is Cole Steele. He is aloof from everyone. He is hard, strong willed, intimidating and is a bad boy to the bone. He left home as soon as he could because of an overly abusive father. Since he has been away he has spent time in jail, intimidated way to many people and seduced his share of woman, never settling down.

But he has returned to town because his father has been murdered and he has discovered that he has a half brother, Jase, whom he has never known about or meant. His fourteen year old half brother needs a guardian. Cole returns to fill that role.

Oh, and as an aside the murdered father has left each of his sons 32 million dollars as their inheritance.

But the town people think that Cole probably killed his father and is planning on killing his half brother to get the full inheritance.

Cole and Jase go to town to have dinner and run into Maia. To say that Cole is intrigued is a light statement. He is captivated.

Through a series of events Maia, Cole and Jase will end up spending Christmas together. Will it be a disaster or will it be healing for to very hurt young men?

The story is very well written. The tension that is raised is amazing. The characters are each developed in perfect harmony to the story and the secrets of each ones past comes to the surface as they learn to trust each other and care for each other.

This is just a perfect Christmas read for anyone wanting that special heartwarming story.

Enjoy!

I got this for the Susan Sizemore Primes story. She has some of my favorite vampires! (next to the Midnight Breed and BDB). But hers are a lot "lighter" stuff. Either way...this was a great story. It's a longish short story about Harry Bleythin-a werewolf PI. We've seen him, his brother, and co-workers throughout the series. I think this is considered Primes 2.5.
It takes place in a small town where some teenagers have gone missing, and the only one who has seen them recently is the local vet, Marjorie Piper. Harry's been brought in by the shifter Council to track them down.
Marj has an empathic gift with animals, and when she runs (almost literally) into a large black wolf, she feels that she needs to help him. Harry (in wolf form) got tranq'd and Marj caged him up so he could sleep it off, but when she goes to check on the wolf she brought home, he's a man! A very naked man.
It was a cute tale of Harry coming to terms with a human mate, and Marj getting over her hatred of Christmas. I loved it, and I loved the ending, too. The teens were all Shifters who'd run off to live off the land, but what 19 year old can live without Christmas (and the presents)? So harry lures them in with the promise of Christmas, and the kids get reunited with their super strict were-parents. It was a happy ending all around.

I have to say that for a short story Christine Feehan did it beautifully. I loved that Maia has this power to heal yet when it comes to Cole she is stuck. Christmas and the past are two things that still haunt these two boys. One is afraid and the other hates it for the bad memories that come with it. I loved that Maia with just her laugh and sweet warmth can bring a family together. Rocky Mountain Miracle is definitely a sweet romantic holiday story and a rare treat for this reader.

Susan Sizemore: A Touch Of Harry

A sweet sentimental story of a werewolf (Harry) and a human (Marj) finding missing kids and falling in love. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, being that the story was set just 2 weeks before christmas and I just happen to be reading it during the actual real time frame.

I absolutely love these women. They are unbelievable and I'm glad to add a little Christmas spirit into the Halloween season. So shifters and womanizer so oh boy.

These stories take you into their own series but add a little romance to that time of year. This is definitely recommended and won't delve into the stories because I don't want to give it away.

Rocky Mountain Christmas by Feehan is a five star story. For a short story, it has strong character development, a fascinating plot, and a story that kept me reading in one session.

The plot is a typical tortured hero loved by a strong woman. But Feehan takes and tried and true formula and turns it into a story you won't want to put down.

Good paranormal romances obviously set at Christmas. Both stories (by different authors) are about female veterinaries with psychic abilities. Very interesting to see the way different authors develop stories on the same subject.

Rocky Mountain Miracle - Christine Feehan - 4/5 - Cole has come back to care for Jase, the 14-year-old brother he didn't know he had, since he left his father's home as soon as he was old enough and never looked back. But knowing the kind of childhood he had, Cole understands what Jase experienced under their father's abusive reign and is determined to see Jase end up with a normal life, unlike his own. But it looks like someone isn't done trying to hurt them, as multiple accidents keep happening around the ranch, including an injured horse. This brings Maia, a psychic veterinarian and the woman whom Cole has been obsessed with for the past week. She gets snowed in on the ranch and Maia's open and accepting attitude begin the healing process with Cold and Jase. She helps them reclaim the house and reclaim Christmas. The longer she's with them, the more certain Cole is that he cannot let her go.

I found this really enjoyable. It's by no means perfect - you've got Maia who is a bit too perfect (she knows exactly what to say in each situation and everything she says and does make everybody happy...she's perfection personified, but she's still very likeable). You've got Cole making speculation that is 100% accurate and with way too much detail to be just speculation. It was like guessing the correct character, weapon and location in Clue without even starting the game. The suspense was okay, but it paled in comparison to the romance and family aspect of this story. That's where the strength is. Maia is able to get Cole and Jase to open up and to begin connecting as a family. She and Cole have a spectacularly enjoyable relationship - I loved reading about it. They grow closer as friends, the chemistry sparks and they become lovers and it all settles into deep love as Cole knows he doesn't want to live without her. And her complete acceptance of the things he needs to do to deal with his demons was awesome. She was a strong heroine who was able to let Cole go without making him feel guilty for what he needed to do. It just all around made me feel good.

A Touch of Harry - Susan Sizemore - 3/5 - Marjorie is an animal psychic who rescues a wolf and wakes up the next morning to find a naked man where the wolf should be. But she doesn't have time to investigate before he disappears. Harrison is the naked werewolf and he's in town investigating some missing were-teens, and he has to stick close to Marj because the last trace of those kids is from her ranch. So he psychically does what he must to keep her from suspecting his nature, but he also knows that they're destined to end up in bed together. And they are, but when Marjorie learns what he is, she's not going to be happy he lied to her.

This was a different aspect of the Prime universe in that it only deals with the were-population, though it does involve characters from previous books in the series. Apparently in this universe, weres do not mate with humans, so Marj and Harrison are sort of a unique deal and why Harrison didn't recognize Marj as his mate right off the bat, because he didn't think his mate could be a human. I'm not a huge fan of the mind tricks and changing people's memories against their will - I understand the reasoning but it feels too much like a violation for me. Which is why I was surprised that Marj was pissed about his lying to her about being a wolf and never even mentioned the fact that he messed with her mind. I do like how pissed she gets and how she's not helpless next to the werewolf. This was a pretty good novella, other than the whole mind fuck thing. I hope this author stops this nonsense - it's what turned me off of the Argeneau series by Lynsay Sands. For me, it's just not attractive.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN MIRACLE
What a good, enjoyable and emotional book to cuddle up with on a wet afternoon.
Though Christmas themed, this really has quite a few dark aspects but to me this just added to the fact that Christmas became a time of joy for these two brothers, due to Maia and her amazing influence and ability.
Loved the characters and my heart bleed for both Cole and Jase. The fact they could even learn to enjoy life again was a miracle, after what their biological sperm donor had done. I cannot in all good conscience use the term father for him.
Cole is a hard man due to how he grew up under a mean and torturous man. He got out as soon as he was old enough and joined the airforce. He has come back to his ranch home to raise a younger half-brother he knew nothing about. Unfortunately, he has a bad reputation, has been in jail and is not a nice man really, using women and keeping his bad reputation going with the townsfolk.
This all gets explained later in the story and is quite a good plotline but at the beginning you are glad Maia will have nothing to do with him.
Maia is a vet and also plays drums in a band, she has led a drifters life, being a vet on call, due to her abilities with animals.
When a horse gets badly injured Maia goes to the ranch with him and this is when the story gets very interesting.
Maia is able to understand what has happened on the ranch and to Jase due to her ability and affinity to understand what animals are telling her. Her interaction with the animals and how she treated Jase was wonderful.
Maia starts to see another side to Cole and they slowly grow closer over the time they are snowed in.
I just loved this story and these three great characters.
I know I have read this book many years before but I still thoroughly enjoyed it.

Rocky Mountain Miracle - I went into this book without any expectations. I have learned that Christmas novels are usually a failed attempt at a romance novel. From the beginning of this novel, I was very impressed. The writing style was phenomenal. I had a very difficult time putting this novel down to attend to my day. I found myself falling in love with Cole and Maia. Aside from their heated romance, I really enjoyed Maia's profession. The idea that the animals give her visions is something I can only ever dream of. Her passion and ambition towards helping animals creates such a wonderful character that I can relate to. Because of this, she is able to see the truth behind Jase and Cole. She wants nothing more than to help them, but knows they can only save themselves from their dark past. Maia is the first woman to ever make an impression on Cole. She has forever etched a mark on his heart.

A Touch of Harry - I went into this book hoping it would be as good as Rocky Mountain Miracle. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed. I just wasn't a fan of the storyline. I had my share of shapeshifter movies and books and I'm over that type of genre. I feel this novel aims more towards teenagers. It wasn't that it was terribly written or anything, I just personally didn't enjoy it.

Two Christmas romances with sugar, spice, and more than a sprinkle of paranormal!

Shadows of Christmas Past by Christine Feehan and Susan Sizemore includes two paranormal romances with a Christmas theme. The first is written by Christine, Rocky Mountain Miracle, and the second is a feature of Susan's titled A Touch of Harry. Both books have strong female lead characters who are human with the ability to "talk" to animals. Both novellas include a steamy Christmas themed romance steamy enough to fog up the windows in the house! Furthermore , both authors know how to write a suspenseful, intriguing story full of edge-of-the-seat action as well as heartwarming moments of love and acceptance wrapped up in the joy of Christmas.

I love that two of my favorite Paranormal Romance writers were able to get together and write this sizzling anthology for Christmas. The Shadows of Christmas Past is an easy- to -read, entertaining offering that I was able to finish in one session. Grab your drink of choice, your favorite blanket, and curl up in front of your fireplace with this book. It will bring peace and joy to your busy holiday season. Guaranteed!!

Rocky Mountain Miracle and A Touch of Harry each deserve their own ratings and reviews! They each show how the kindness and sharing can bring about a Special Love during the Christmas Season! Each story deserves a 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Rating!!!
Rocky Mountain Miracle with the help of an injured horse, a blizzard and a ranch in the mountains Maia Armstrong the traveling vet helping out at the local clinic. Helps bring Christmas, Love, Trust and Understanding to 2 brother's whose Cruel now deceased father had shattered years ago!
A Touch of Harry has the small town of Kennedyville trying to come back from a wildfire that ravaged the town that summer. Marj Piper ran an animal shelter on her ranch just outside of town. Harrison Blethyin was new in town visiting family for the Christmas holiday. Who also was a private investigator secretly searching for a group of missing teenagers. And Marj was searching for a black wolf. So they teamed up to help each other in hopes this Christmas would bring them each a Miracle!!!

ROCKY MOUNTAIN MIRACLE: This is such a feel good story - with angst, drama a huge mystery and a wonderful happy ending!!
Cole reluctantly returns home at the unexpected death of his father, who was an abusive *&%# when he finds he has a younger brother. The brothers have too much in common due to their father. They meet Maia, a traveling vet who has an ability to connect psychically with animals - and sparks fly between Maia and Cole! This story really tugged at my heart and left me feeling good!!

A TOUCH OF HARRY: Another vet; Marj who has an ability to speak psychically with animals and that means Harry... a werewolf, that she meets when he is a wolf. The small town that Marj practices as a vet and helps with animal rescue fall in line when Harry is looking for some lost 'children'. This was a very fast read with a great ending!!!!

THE SHADOWS OF CHRISTMAS PAST contain two novellas by Christine Feehan and Susan Sizemore. ROCKY MOUNTAIN MIRACLE by Christine Feehan. The sparks flying on a remote ranch could melt all the snow in Wyoming when an injured horse brings together a rugged womanizer with a dangerous reputation and an irresistible veterinarian rumored to cast spells. But does her magic touch work on animals and men? This tale is enriched with emotional upheavals, dark secrets, invisible menacing enemy to keep readers intrigued.

A TOUCH OF HARRY by Susan Sizemore is about a small-town woman who is shocked when the injured wolf she takes back to her kennel turns into a man. The only thing more difficult to hide than his stunning escape is the burning desire she feels for this stranger who brings out her wild side.

I really love the magical realism and animal elements in these two stories. In Rocky Mountain Miracle, I initially didn't like Cole. He was too man-handling of Maia and didn't listen to the word no. Once the couple was on the ranch and Jase was added in I enjoyed the story a lot more. I liked the suspense and mystery aspect and found it to be a fun, quick holiday read. In A Touch of Harry, I liked that we have another veterinarian who can communicate with animals (like with Maia in the first story). I am not big on werewolf romances or the whole alpha male, but I thought this one wasn't overbearing at all. I liked the plot line of them searching for the teen runaways and enjoyed the romance. It is really short, but again, another fun one for the holidays.

Christmas 🎄 Romance

I've always been a sucker for a paranormal romance. But to get 2 books in one. These two stories will warm you up. Both stories involve two women who have psychic abilities that help them communicate with animals. The first story involves past trauma and healing. The second story involves hurting, healing, love, and understanding and a werewolf that ends up falling in love with her.. A lot of Christmas vibes and feels. One Aurthor, I have always LOVED her writing (Feehan). This other author is new to me, but I'm enjoying the way she writes (Sizemore), and I will be checking out more of her books.

Two stories in one.
Rocky Mountain Miracle - Christine Feehan
I loved this to tears. Maia has her hands full when snowed in with 'bad boy' Cole and his half brother Jase. She's a veterinarian who has the unique ability to 'speak' with animals. A truly touching story about overcoming obstacles from the past.

A Touch of Harry - Susan Sizemore
While this was good, I didn't care for it as much as the previous story. It's a light read and just didn't engage me very well. Nothing wrong with it. It just didn't 'click.'

Well done.

Read A Touch of Harry, which is the story by Susan Sizemore. Interesting universe of various werves, including wolves, foxes and cougars. Harry is a werewolf PI tasked to find a group of runaway teen/YAs, one of whom is mated to a human which is forbidden, and Marj is a vet who can talk to animals like Dr. Doolittle.

The second story raised this up to 2 stars but I almost didn't finish it... These stories needed so much more development to be realistic. The first one was laughable because no woman just melts that quickly and just allows a man all over her when she says no. I did finish it though it was entertaining. Just not one I'll pick up again.
