An eye-opening look at what's really in the toiletries and cosmetics we use. Pat Thomas explains how the contents of the beauty products we use enter the bloodstream in a matter of seconds, passing on a cocktail of carcinogens, irritants and disease-causing ingredients. She also offers tips on how to minimize and reduce the damage.

Good tips for substitutes. Sometimes very radical but good advice overall.

Warning - this book cannot be unread; reading this book is sheer horror. The pervasiveness of harmful substances as mentioned suggest that the only way to avoid them is to become extremist eco-warriors who make their own soaps. It's still best to take everything said with a pinch of salt, and careful consider the evidence raised.

Not my cup of tea. Was looking for a guide that would explain more how the ingredients would help the skin.

Its pretty good for those who want to know about ingredients (especially skincare). Promote to use less product and more natural ingredients, not only for my sake but also for environmental.

This is a shorter book than many of Pat's other titles this one concentrates on cosmetics and toiletries. It does re-iterate some of the points made in earlier books but it does feature an updated list of more "green" cosmetic companies who have lower or no-harmful chemicals in their formulations. I'm not going to say "no chemicals" as I was a science student once and do understand that everything is chemicals!

If you want to go greener this is a useful tool to investigate those things that might be useful. If you've read other books by Pat Thomas this might feel a little repeditive.
