Rosemary Wells is an American writer and illustrator of children's books. She often uses animal characters to address real human issues. Some of her most well-known characters are Max & Ruby and Timothy from Timothy Goes To School (both were later adapted into Canadian-animated preschool television series, the former’s airing on Nickelodeon (part of the Nick Jr. block) and the latter’s as part of PBS Kids on PBS).
I liked this one better than some of Wells' Max and Ruby books that tell a more thorough story. What I liked about this book was that it really explores common prepositions as well as the words go and stop. I also liked the fall leaves. Ruby is still looking after Max, but Grandma is present, so I didn't get that weird feeling I get with some of the other stories.
I chose this book because I remember my niece watching it as a tv show! I definitely think the show is better than the book, but I did like how the author type the words to look like the meaning. It was easy to understand that way!
I picked this book because Max is a familiar character. Though being a simple book of prepositions a child just learning to read could work through most of these words and enjoy the fun illustrations.
This is a lovely little board book for beginning readers. Shows children the differences between the words under, over, side, above, and many other prepositions. Its simple and straight to the point.
