This century old adventure story engaged me from the start, as I really enjoyed every minute reading.

Along the way I learned a thing or two about places, eras and nature that few get to experience first hand.

An excellent read.

I found this on project guttenberg and, being interested in the ocean, ships, and the history of the period, I decided to give it a read. I was not very disappointed. There was plenty of action and excitement, along with a lot of details on what it was really like on a combination steam/sail craft of the day. I was amused by some of the actions taken by Stirling, our intrepid hero, and how he countered the occasionally less than moral actions of his fellow crew and the captain and owner of the boat. Some bits were obviously contrived, but in the interests of good story telling, they were okay. If you have an interest in life in the late 1800s on a sailing/steam ship in the Arctic, you will likely enjoy it, too.
