Miracle in Sumatra is basically a story about a young orangutan named Gutsy Gus and his courageous deed of saving his parents. One day, while he is out playing, his parents are captured by an animal trapper named Hunter. Hunter does not only capture orangutans, but he also capture chimpanzees, gorillas and even bonobos. This beautiful story with its gorgeous cover highlights the very real and tragic occurrence of animal poaching and habitat loss for not only the orangutans of Sumatra but many species worldwide. The illustrations are the perfect accompaniment to the story; bright, colourful and captivating for both young and old.

Gus is a baby orangutan who is just learning how to live in the jungle. While following his mother, he gets distracted from the trail and meets a young girl named Maya. Maya and Gus become quick friends. Then Gus's family get captured by poachers, and an angel named Gabriella asks Maya to help Gus save his family.

Cover and artwork throughout the book is gorgeous--very bright and colorful. The story was original and refreshing.
