Digital Exposure Handbook

Rate this book
“Exposure is the heartbeat of photography… If you try to overlook this key fundamental, your photography will never realize its full creative potential.” That’s the compelling message of this extraordinary tutorial. It explains why automatic settings limit the digital camera’s artistic possibilities, and shows with a gallery of spectacular examples how technically “incorrect” exposures achieve dramatic effects—creating bold silhouettes or blazing highlights, manipulating depth of field, blurring to give the sense of motion, or freezing fast action. This exhaustive state-of-the-art manual covers all aspects of its subject, from the basics of metering and the use of flash and filters, to the four-thirds system and exposure in the digital darkroom.

Ten poradnik nauczył mnie podstawowej rzeczy w fotografii czyli zależności między ISO, przesłoną i czasem naświetlania, nauczył mnie dużo o świetle, kompozycji, o technicznych aspektach fotografii. Dał mi naprawdę porządne podwaliny do nauki w praktyce, co mocno przełożyło się na wzrost jakości moich zdjęć.

This is a terrific book covering a good breadth of topics.

I picked it up on impulse because the photos are absolutely beautiful. The topic of exposure covers much more than you'd think: obviously aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, but covering these requires also addressing depth of field, focus of various types, short and long exposure techniques, and noise. The book also covers various types of filters, focal lengths, bracketing, post-processing techniques, and lots of other useful topics. Of course, such breadth in a small book means each topic can't be covered too extensively, but the author's concise style enables him to cover them much more than superficially.
