I love history and the people who made it...well, some of them anyways.

Recommends it for: People who like serious quotes with their origins thrown in
An expertly researched if not somewhat dry book of quotes. My main problem with this book is the boringness of some of the quotes. There was really nothing to keep me reading other than the occasional interesting quote. However, the paragraphs explaining the quotes were well-written and informative, leaving the door open for readers to do future research. More interesting books of quotes could probably be found, but this one isn't bad.

I've been reading these as a one a day for some time. Very interesting.

More a historical review of influential thinkers than a true collection of memorable quotes. Many quotes are nothing more than excerpts of prose or obscure literature, but the people behind them are interesting.

A cool book with famous quotes and it tells you who said them and what it's from! It's pretty fun to flip through and read the ones you know. ~Ashley

Very good information and knowledge you can get out of this book.
English is my second language, i found it a bit hard to understand everything because hard words are used so often in this book.

One of the best general history reference works I've read. A few of the choices are a bit open to debate...but it's a minor quibble. A solid piece of work for any history shelf.
