Uncommon Animals

Fossa: A Fearsome Predator

Rate this book
For years, people on the secluded island of Madagascar told scary stories about a mysterious creature called the fossa. According to some, this vicious killer crept out of the forest at night to steal babies from their cribs. Few people, however, had actually seen this rare animal. Were the stories true? Scientist Luke Dollar was about to find out. In 1996, he set up camp in Madagascar to study these mysterious and misunderstood creatures—and finally learn the truth. In A Fearsome Predator, kids follow Dollar as he discovers the secrets of this fascinating, uncommon animal. Large, full-color photos and a narrative format will keep readers turning the pages for more.

I thought the book was useful and entertaining. It is the only known book on fossas and I loved it. Though when I discovered the fossa in a magazine at the library I planned to leave with as many books as I could find, that ended up being one-- this one.

Required reading for questioning fans of the Madagascar movies. So that's the dreaded fossa. I'd be afraid, too, if I were a cute little lemur.

This is a good book for all ages! It explains how fossae were studied, and tells about their habitats. It has lots of information, good photos, a Glossary and an Index.
