This is the third Living Language Complete Basic Course I've studied (German was really good but I couldn't get into Chinese). I really like how the four chapter units are organized. The first chapter focuses on new words, the second: new phrases, the third: new sentences, and the fourth puts it all together in a pair of well-written and interesting conversations. As a longtime student of languages, I appreciate the balance this publisher maintains between pronunciation, grammar, usefulness, culture and fun. Every unit contains some sort of cultural explanation or links to outside websites if you want to explore a particular subject further. The CDs are great, too, with clear and enjoyable voices at a nice pace. One strike against it is the occasional spelling error or incorrect answer to a question. I know what you're thinking (that the mistakes are all mine but I'm sure about this). In closing: si você quer estudar português, penso que este livro seria bom para você. If you want to study Portuguese, I think this book would be good for you.
