As many of you may be aware, I have recently found a new appreciation for the short story. It allows an author more 'play' space to let their imagination run farther and faster than a full length novel would. This is one of those books that sat on my shelf for months, but when I picked it up I just devoured it in a few sittings. Byloos's short, smart experimental fictions made my brain light up while reading them but often left me hard-pressed to describe them when I was done. Shelves: fiction
Not just short stories, but dark patternings of human behavior, deconstructed and compartmentalized by a twisted mind, neatly organized within each structure according to each character's level of perception and sensitivity. Body-conscious, sympathetic, and strangely sweet tales.

Byloos leaves us to weigh what's metaphorical versus real, more darkness than light, and wacked regardless.
