The Battle of Midway: The Destruction of the Japanese Fleet
For six months after its entrance into World War II, America suffered defeat after defeat against Japanese forces in the Pacific. However, America ended its string of losses in June 1942 during a three-day battle near the island of Midway. The stunning victory changed the course of the war in the Pacific. Carrier-based U.S. planes sunk four Japanese aircraft carriers, permanently damaging Japan’s fearsome carrier force and allowing the U.S. Navy to gain the strategic advantage.

The carrier Yorktown depicted by the illustrator as CV 10, is not the Carrier Yorktown (CV-5), sunk at the Battle of Midway. The CV-10 was commissioned on 15 April 1943 and named in honor of the carrier lost at Midway. This Yorktown is a National Historic Landmark and is anchored at Patriot's Point in Charleston, SC.

This is a graphic novel that explains the Battle of Midway. The Battle of Midway ( Midway= tiny island 1000 miles from Hawaii) was a naval battle that occurred in World War 2, 6 months after the Pearl Harbor bombing. Boys readers would love this book to help them learn about this important battle and the history of the US!
