Today, my boss fired me via text message. I don’t have a text messaging plan. I paid 25 cents to get fired.
Your girlfriend dumped you, your car broke down, your boss passed you up for the big promotion. Life’s not fair, but there is one sure-fire way to ease your pain–laughing at someone else who had an even worse day than you did.
Enter the devastatingly funny world of F My Life , where calamity is comedy. Covering every disastrous pratfall in love, work, family-life, and more, F My Life proffers other people’s ruinous, real-life happenings to brighten your gloomiest someone getting dumped through a greeting card, ignored at their birthday party, or insulted by their own grandmother. Spanning everything from ironic twists of fate to down-right shameful moments, F My Life ’s squirm-inducing stories are schadenfreude at its finest. So today, take solace in knowing that at least you’re not that guy. There now, don’t you feel better?
Today, my boyfriend broke up with me. I cried and told him that I loved him. He gave me a quarter and told me to call someone who cared. I threw the quarter in his face and ran. I waited for the bus, but when I got on, I realized I was 25 cents short of the fare. I walked home in the rain.
Today, my mom walked in on me looking at a 1978 Playboy. She asked if I found it in the basement. I said yes. Then I realized she was the centerfold.
Today, I got in line at the grocery store. The woman in front of me looked right at me, turned to her friend, and said “That reminds me, I forgot to get acne cream.”
Exactly what I needed to finally get out of the dreaded reading slump. I needed something light to read, and this was hilarious. I haven't really read anything funny, so I guess I should consider this as my first humor book. It's not a novel in terms of the format, but rather it's a collection of experiences wherein people end up feeling like shit. Almost all of the experiences made me laugh out loud. I even tried reading a few pages in class and the professor noticed me laughing in my seat, so I decided to listen instead. I haven't really laughed out loud a lot because of a novel, so great job F My Life for making me want to read more humor asap.
4.5/5 stars. I don't need to write a long and critically explained review because this was a leisure read. I honestly can't tell you what you can learn from this, aside from the fact that feeling stupid and becoming a victim of the inevitable is part of life. Everyone has their own stories to tell, even me. I think there's a sequel for this, and I will be reading it soon. I need to read more novels like this, or any humor novel in general. Highly recommended.
Do you ever feel like your life is going down the toilet? Does something happen to you where you just wish the ground would open up and swallow you? Then read this book! Nothing makes you feel better about your own misfortune than reading about other people's misfortune. This book is a hilarious collection of unfortunate events that have affected members of the general public. These are the most popular stories taken from the website FML and are guaranteed to make you chuckle to yourself. I know this is meant to be read in small chunks and to be referred back to now and again as a pick me up but I just have to read a book from start to finish. This made the book a little repetitive and dry in places but overall I really recommend this book.
I remember reading the new posts on this website every day in my early college years and enjoying it at the time. Now almost every entry just made me think one of three things:
1. Oh, that stinks I guess. 2. You brought that upon yourself moron. 3. How is this FML worthy?
There were maybe two entries that made me think: "Daaaaamn, that really sucks."
Not many things make me laugh, but this book had me laughing out loud at every page! Crude and inappropriate (maybe), but hysterical nonetheless. This book IS my life, on so many pages. Thanks to the friend who gave it to me!
It is impossible to read from this book without laughing out loud. I challenge everyone to try it.
This book is a collection of submissions from the website fmylife.com - you can go there and read the most recent posts for yourself.
Alex and I picked this book out of the 99-cent bin at BooksAMillion in Meridian during a recent trip to Mississippi. Turns out it wasn't on sale and I paid top dollar for it (FML). Alex read from it for the last two hours of the drive. It was great. We arrived at our destination in no time (seemingly); I had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard, and on at least two occasions we drifted off the road (the setting sun in our watery eyes didn't help).
As much as I enjoyed this book, its a read-once and pass on to the next reader. Its nice to know, however, that no matter how bad I think my day is going its already gone much much worse for someone else. Anytime I need a reminder I'll visit the web site for a refresher.
I haven't actually visited the website for a few years so when I saw this book in the sale, I thought it would be nice to re-visit.
I was, however, very disappointed in this book. To start with, it is meant to be read in small doses and that is exactly what I did, but it still didn't stop me from getting bored. This book dragged on. It was a pretty quick read but it felt far longer.
Anything that you get from this book can be found on the site, and while this may be a collection of the best ones, it isn't even that funny. Some stories verge on pure pathetic while others are so harsh and show just how horrible some people are in the world.
I used to really enjoy the site, and whether it's just me getting more mature as I age or these being way too fake at times to be believable, this was just not a good book.
All the submissions are mixed, so unless you're willing to sort through an onslaught of assholes expecting sympathy when confronted by the consequences of their actions (e.g., "Today, my mistress called my wife on the phone. FML"), then don't bother.
Some I'm hoping are prelude to instant break-up; I lost track of how many horrible boyfriends/fiancés subjected their supposedly significant other to the most base of disregard.
And there are a fair few that I'm certain were made up.
That said, there are a number of comically tragic FMLs, such as the person who had a cut on their hand, went to open a Band-Aid tin, and cut their hand again on it. Heh. I mean, ouch.
HILARIOUS. I laughed my ass off. Some of them were great examples of schadenfreude, but there were a few that just made me cringe with secondhand embarrassment instead. There were also a few where all I could think of was how casually racist the people were being (see the Chinese guy with a plastic bag who was assumed to be a delivery man whereas he just lived in the building, or the black professor told he had a 70s black pimp walk when in fact he'd been beaten as a child for drinking from the wrong fountain). "S*** White People Say"-caliber goofs that no amount of apologizing will really smooth over. Yikes!
Either way, though, fun read, had me literally laughing out loud many times!

This book seems like it is a collection of twitter stories. You can fit three or even four complete stories onto one page. You wont find much intellectual stimulation in this book but there are a lot of awesome stories of everyday fails.
"Today I was arrested because my six year old son called the police, saying that I was hitting my wife and that she was crying. My wife and I had been having sex."
"Today my parents met my boyfriends parents for the first time...bailing us out of jail."
Great for a laugh, despite how terrible some of the situations in this book are. Sadly enough, a lot of these made me feel better about my own life. I guess that's why people bully others or make fun of them, huh?
But it was also annoying to see that a lot of complaints in this book were related to being a virgin or not having sex in a long time. God, does nothing else matter to people? Or am I just a freak?
OK, it turns out it was pretty amusing book. Wasn't sure what to expect, but it kept me turning the pages. It was a quick and easy read, a collection of brief and embarrassing anecdotes! Some of them were really awful, terribly embarrassing, and horribly painful... some of them were overreactions to situations that weren't any big deal... and some were the perfect combination of absurd and embarrassment, which made me LOL.
Want to have a quick laugh but are without your laptop, iPod, or cell phone? Then this is the book for you! Got this for Christmas, because my friend knew that I highly enjoyed funny people...and I have highly enjoyed it. Great for when you are having a bad day and just want to laugh at somebody else.
Not as funny as expected. Amusing at first, but the repetition grew tiring and the humor faded. Still, would be good to pick up occasionally when in need of a smile, but that's nothing you can't get off the website for free, or make up yourself.
I just love tacking on 'fuck my life' to the end of all my daily whinings. Didn't need a book for that!
I bought this for my husband on Valentines Day because I didn't know what else to get him. Needless to say we were both in stitches with tears in our eyes reading the book together. When you think your life can't get any worse, pick up this book for sh*ts and giggles. Sometimes it's good to laugh at other peoples misfortunes and makes your day not seem so bad after all!
BTW. Mojou najklikanejšou stránkou je teraz fmylife.com, odporúčam absolútne každému!
A nice quick read that you can pick up and put down whenever you want, if you can put it down that is. I liked it because you dont have to keep reading it to remember a storyline, because there isn't one. You could set it down for months or years and not need to start over.
Wanna read something which is embarrassing yet totally hilarious???well..it is my first recommendation. there are some moments where I will laugh myself outloud and say 'F***, been there..done that' and 'God, it's humiliating chapter of my life story', i wish I could my face somewhere else...
This was one of the funniest collections of confessions I have read in a long while! Some I really thought were made up and some just made me sad for the person writing them, but overall it was a quick read and a good laugh!
This is one of the most depressing books I've ever read. This was supposed to be funny? I seriously hope 99% of that book was made up, because if not... wow, the world is going to Hell in a handbasket. :(
Grabbed this for a quick read to complete my reading challenge. This book is NOT meant to be read in just a couple of days. It's more of a here and there book. Still a pretty funny book to make you feel better about your life.
this book reminds me alot of postsecret. I laughed while reading through it. While there are plenty of them that are hilarious, there are some that are just downright sad.
I am quite the fan of the website fmylife.com, and when I saw this on the Borders homepage a book was being published on it, I just had to buy it! It was worth the money.
Quick, fun read. If you enjoy the website, or enjoy hearing about random occurrences in other people's lives, then you'll like the book. I laughed out loud on numerous entries.
