Rajneesh emphasized the importance of meditation, mindfulness, love, celebration, courage, creativity and humor—qualities that he viewed as being suppressed by adherence to static belief systems, religious tradition and socialization.
In advocating a more open attitude to human sexuality he caused controversy in India during the late 1960s and became known as "the sex guru".

In 1974 Rajneesh relocated to Pune, where an ashram was established and a variety of therapies, incorporating methods first developed by the Human Potential Movement, were offered to a growing Western following. By the late 1970s, the tension between the ruling Janata Party government of Morarji Desai and the movement led to a curbing of the ashram's development and a back taxes claim estimated at $5 million.
In 1981, the Rajneesh movement's efforts refocused on activities in the United States and Rajneesh relocated to a facility known as Rajneeshpuram in Wasco County, Oregon. Almost immediately the movement ran into conflict with county residents and the state government, and a succession of legal battles concerning the ashram's construction and continued development curtailed its success.
In 1985, in the wake of a series of serious crimes by his followers, including a mass food poisoning attack with Salmonella bacteria and an aborted assassination plot to murder U.S. Attorney Charles H. Turner, Rajneesh alleged that his personal secretary Ma Anand Sheela and her close supporters had been responsible. He was later deported from the United States in accordance with an Alford plea bargain.[
After his deportation, 21 countries denied him entry. He ultimately returned to India and a revived Pune ashram, where he died in 1990. Rajneesh's ashram, now known as OSHO International Meditation Resort and all associated intellectual property, is managed by the Zurich registered Osho International Foundation (formerly Rajneesh International Foundation). Rajneesh's teachings have had a notable impact on Western New Age thought, and their popularity has increased markedly since his death.

تو می دانی، در واقع معتقدی که بدون عشق، شادی و لذت وجود ندارد؛ بدون عشق، زندگی معنا ندارد؛ بدون عشق احساس تشنگی ناشناخته ای به تو دست می دهد، احساس پوچ بودن و به ثمر نرسیدن. بدون عشق، انسان تهی است، هیچ چیز ندارد؛ همچون صندوقی است بدون محتوا. تو این پوچی و تهی بودن و نارضایتی ناشی از آن را احساس می کنی...
ولی وقتی که به عشق نزدیک می شوی، ترسی بزرگ بر تو سایه می افکند، شک و تردید ظهور می کند؛ آیا اگر خودت را در عشق رها کنی و به دست آن بسپاریامکان بازگشت برایت وجود خواهد داشت؟ ایا خواهی توانست هویت و شخصیت خود را حفظ کنی؟ آیا گام نهادن در چنین وادی پرمخاطره ای ارزشش را دارد؟ اینجاست که ذهن تو تصمیم می گیرد چنین ریسکی نکند با این استدلال که حداقل امنیت تو حفظ می شود. بدون توجه به اینکه تو تشنه، ناراضی و بدبخت هستی. محو شدن در وادی ناشناخته عشق-کسی چه می داند؟ چه تضمینی وجود دارد که آدم در آنجا به شادی و لذت، بهجت و در نهایت به خدا برسد؟
این همان ترسی است که یک بذر هنگام مدفون شدن و حل شدن در خاک احساس می کند. این حل شدن، برای بذر به مثابه مرگ است. ولی بذر نمی تواند تصور کند که از مرگ زندگی بر می خیزد.

مشکلات باعث رنج و ناراحتی ما می شوند، تنها به این دلیل که هرگز آنها را مورد توجه قرار نداده ایم تا بفهمیم چه هستند.

دوستی به دو صورت است: یکی دوستی که شما در آن یک نیازمند و گدا هستید احتیاج دارید که دیگری شما را به خاطر تنهایی تان کمک کند. فرد متقابل شما نیز یک نیازمند است که از شما همین را می خواهد و طبیعتا دو گدا نمی توانند به یکدیگز کمک کنند و بزودی درک خواهند کرد که گدایی کردن از یک گدا فقط نیاز را چند برابر می کن. پس هر دو خسته و عصبانی خواهند شد و فکر می کنن که فریب خورده اند، ولی در حقیقت هیچ کس، دیگری را فریب نداده است.
نوع دیگر دوستی کیفیتی کاملا متفاوت دارد. این نوع دوستی به خاطر نیاز نیست بلکه به خاطر این است که شما به قدری پر و غنی هستید که می خواهید با شخص دیگری شریک شوید و به علت این شراکت و سهیم شدن، نوع جدیدی شادی و سرور وارد زندگی شما می شود که هرگز قبلا تجربه اش نکرده اید، چرا که شما همیشه در حال گدایی بوده اید. وقتی شما کیفیتی را شریک می شوید، دیگر به دنبال وابستگی به کسی نیستید بلکه با هستی و تغییرات زندگی جریان می یابید، زیرا برای شما اهمیتی ندارد این کیفیت را با چه کسی شریک می شوید. خیلی ساده است، چون شما پر و غنی هستید می خواهید با دیگران شریک شوید و هر کس به شما نزدیک شود شما او را سهیم می کنید و این شراکت خود علت سرور و حال خوش شماست.

To be completely honest I was rather reluctant to read this book. I love any book that has to do with philosophy yet the title and overall aura of the book seemed so cliché, that and the fact that I had never read any books by OSHO makes me think just how lucky my stars were in that moment that I picked it up.
The moment I started reading it, it was as if this work had been written specifically for me at this moment in time. I could relate to every principle and thought. Its scary how much it resonates with my current view on society and the way we live our lives. I learned some very useful things from this book.
Despite it being a spiritual book with a dash of self help, it wasn't overbearing at all. On the contrary it was light and humorous with fantastic use of jokes and anecdotes to explain the various beliefs and opinions.
Overall, its one of those books that can change a persons life and I would definitely recommend it to everyone.

The journey of self starts and ends within. Live in the moment, for it is all that exists! When that moment is death, some of us may be lucky enough to know that it is only the next great moment meant to be embraced!

زندگي يك بوم نقاشي سفيد است. اين به تو بستگي دارد. زندگي في نفسه مانند يك بوم سفيد نقاشي است؛ هر چه بر روي ان بكشي همان مي شود. مي تواني رنج و محنت بر روي آن نقاشي كني، از طرف ديگر مي توناي نقش شادي و خوشبختي بر آن بيفكني. شكوه و عظمت وجود انساني تو در اين آزادي خلاصه مي شود.

Real book is that which remains not in our memory, but in our being, the very life style. I consider this book as a real book. I remember hardly nothing, but I am living, an feeling the presence of the book in the very breath on my small mustache :)

Thought the title was so cliche at first! But grabbed it anyway. Some ideas he presents are so simple yet often overlooked, it made me laugh out loud (LOL!). Easy read, especially for a "down" day when you need a chin lift.

LIFE
Life in itself is not meaningful. It is meaningful only if you can sing a song of the eternal, if you can release some fragrance of the divine, of the godly, if you can become a lotus flower - deathless, timeless. If you can become pure love, if you can beautify this existence, if you can become a blessing to this existence, only then does life have significance; otherwise it is pointless. It is like an empty canvas: you can go on carrying it your whole life and you can die under its weight, but what is the point? Paint something on it! Meaning has to be created in life; meaning is not given already. You are given freedom, you are given creativity, you are given life. All that is needed to create meaning is given. All the essential ingredients of meaning are given, but meaning is not given, meaning has to be created by you. You have to become a creator in your own right.
LOVE
The highest state of love is not a relationship at all, it is simply a state of your being. Just as trees are green, a lover is loving. They are not green for particular persons, it is not that when you come they become green. The flower goes on spreading its fragrance whether anybody comes or not, whether anybody appreciates or not. The flower does not start releasing its fragrance when it sees that a great poet is coming by - 'Now this man will appreciate, now this man will be able to understand who I am.' And it does not close its doors when it sees that a stupid, idiotic person is passing there - insensitive, dull - a politician or something like that. It does not close itself - 'What is the point? Why cast pearls before the swine?' No, the flower goes on spreading its fragrance. It is a state of being, not a relationship.
LAUGHTER
Life has to be taken hilariously! Life is so full of laughter, it is so ridiculous, it is so funny that unless your juices have gone completely dry you cannot be serious. I have looked around at life in every possible way and it is always funny, whatever way you look at it! It gets funnier and funnier! It is such a beautiful gift of the beyond. I am against all seriousness. My whole approach is that of humour, and the greatest religious quality is a sense of humour - not truth, not God, not a virtue, but a sense of humour. If we can fill the whole earth with laughter, with dancing and singing - people singing and swinging! - if we can make the earth a carnival of joy, a festival of lights, we will have brought for the first time a true sense of religiousness to the earth.

Hlavni pozitivní poslání knihy je: dávejte, milujte doopravdy, smějte se, a straňte se formálním vztahům a náboženstvím. Přidávám ještě závěrečný citát knihy "Ve chvíli, kdy se lidé zapomenou smát, kdy přestanou být hraví, kdy zapomenou tančit, přestávají být lidmi; klesnou mezi živočichy. Zato hravost lidi povznáší, láska je povznáší; smích jim k tomu poskytuje křídla. V radostném tanci mohou lidé dosáhnout až ke hvězdám, mohou poznávat největší tajemství života. „Toto jsou ta čtyři velkolepá slova: Život, Láska, Smích – a Světlo."
