The Higher Christian Life

by William Edwin Boardman

"The Higher Christian Life" by William Edwin Boardman. This book examines the deepest aims of Christian experience, arguing that believers may enter a higher plane of life through two distinct, though related, justification by faith (the forgiveness of sins) and sanctification (full salvation) through faith in Jesus Christ and the present indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Boardman illustrates his thesis with biographical sketches of Luther, Merle D’Aubigné, Hester Ann Rogers, William Carvosso, and other saints, comparing experiences of faith, assurance, and holiness. He emphasizes that true salvation consists of union with Christ and living by faith, not self-improvement or works, and warns against perfectionism. The Pentecostal gift, often called the baptism of the Holy Spirit, is described as a permanent, life-enriching indwelling that enables rest, power, and victorious living. The work blends doctrinal exposition with practical guidance, aiming to empower Christians to pursue a consistent, joyful, mission-driven life in the Spirit. It includes sections on 'The True Starting-Point', 'The Law of Progress', 'Power', and 'Aggressive Power' and closes with exhortations to abide in Christ daily.

Have come to most of the conclusions that are discussed in the book, but it added to what I know and gave me some new perspectives. It especially brought to light "abiding in Him" more than I had ever considered.

A wonderful book!

Santification (1.Cor.1,30; 1.Thess.4,3) and the fullness of the Holy Spirit explained and proven by many sweet testimonies. If all born again believers found this life of fullness (John 10:10) the whole world would get changed and praise the Lord Jesus!
