Easy to do recipes. This series is aimed at a school audience, but the recipes are fine and easy to do for those of us who are not accomplished cooks.

I enjoyed this little book. I hoped for more recipes. It’s a great place for young cooks to start.

My niece and I have now looked through and read probably 15 books on France and French cuisine for her project so I feel more than justified adding another one to my challenges.

A few things we took notes on in this book:
*L 'exces en tout est defaut - excess is always a fault
*One of the most important rule is French cuisine is not using too much of any one ingredient
* Cuisine bourgeoise - type of home cooking vs fancy cuisine
* On May Day, May 1st, they give muguets (lily of the valley) to friends and family. The flower is believed to be good luck
*Many French tables settings always use cloth napkins, never paper. Tables are covered with plain or checked cloths with very simple place settings. They do no use flowers because smell would detract from the aroma of the food.
*Dinner is a time of family and fellowship and can sometimes last several hours.
