This was a really fun and approachable read. Highly recommend to pick it up if you’re a dog owner and want to read a bit more about the basics of good dog food!
If you already know a lot, it’s nothing new under the bridge, but it then still is a good book to have nearby for if and when you want to quickly look up some things and there are especially a couple of really fun recipes to try out! So overall, I really like to have this book in my collection now, even though for me personally it wasn’t a lot of new stuff. A lot of the bron material the authors use and learn from themselves, comes from bron material I was already familiar with, but there’s always something to take away from it still, however small the details. It’s in that sense a perfect Handbook; compact and to the point but in a way that it’s readable for everyone.
A great addition to every dog owner’s book collection! It’s also a motivator for wanting to read more again, for me personally. In the back of the book there’s a book list and peoples list of professionals that you can look up. I really like that! A couple of those books from the list, I already own, but I’ll definitely be checking out the rest that I wasn’t familiar with. #Nevernotreadingnewmaterial when it comes to Dogs and their health!
If you are looking for more reading material I highly recommend to also look up the Forever Dog for example, which is used as a sourcing material for this book as well.
This book is a great starting point for anyone looking for a better and more healthy way to feed your dogs. It gives you all the tools and resources needed to start this journey. The authors are knowledgeable and understanding that not everyone can do everything, but know that even small changes make for happy healthier dogs.
This book is like the tldr version of The Forever Dog. It referenced that book and a lot of the studies in that book. It also put a lot of that book in layman’s terms which I like for encouraging my friends and family for transitioning to a form of this lifestyle however I really enjoy looking up the studies especially for something as new as feeding raw when my vet is hesitant (after the whole grain free debacle no one wants to be on the wrong side of studies). I also really enjoyed the pictures.
I expected much more from this book! Unfortunately, the advice provided was a bit too basic for my taste. As someone who’s already well-versed in homemade raw diets, I didn’t find much new or insightful information here. However, I did appreciate the recipes, especially those focused on supplements and treats—they're something I'll definitely take inspiration from.
The section on enrichment was nice, but again, it covered very basic information that anyone who’s read even a single book on dog health or follows industry creators will already know.
I was initially inclined to give this book four stars, but considering the price point—$20 for just over 150 pages—I can’t justify that. Three stars feel more appropriate.
I would recommend this book to those who are new to home-prepared diets and are looking to get started. It’s also a great option for those interested in learning more about gently-cooked diets, as most books on the market focus exclusively on raw. But for someone like me, who has already done their research on fresh diets, I don’t think this book is worth the investment, especially considering the cost.
Incredibly informative! It’s evident that Bryce & Kenzie aim to provide researched and science-backed content that’s easy to apply in a day-to-day routine. Although it’s evident they support raw diets as the most beneficial, I really respected that they didn’t buy into the extremism and fear tactics so often seen in both pet & human health. They make their recipes approachable and easy to integrate into various diets, and don’t try to make their reader feel guilty or wrong for adopting a range of diets to suit their needs, acknowledging the cost, time, and concerns associated with raw. They squash the myths and focus on their goal, to give dogs a healthier and happier life and support pet parents trying to learn more. Thank you for such a great read & my boy Howie says thanks for all the yummy meals to come!
I've been wanting to find more information on dog nutrition instead of always feeding my girl highly processed kibble and this book was fantastic. It was informational in regards to the history of kibble, improving your dog's meals based on your budget, providing the math for certain nutritional requirements based on your dog's weight, and even recipes and additional health related topics to better your dog's life. Great beginning book for those who want to make a change. Very happy with this buy!
The content of this book is truly valuable, but I have concerns about its writing and editing quality. The second part seems rushed, and the last chapter ends abruptly without a proper conclusion. It feels odd transitioning from toxic ingredients to suddenly introducing other resources without a clear connection.
That being said, if you want to know how to feed your dog this is an excellent, easy-to-use guide book which I will be highly recommending to all my clients and friends with pets.
A quick read with a 10,000-ft view on raw feeding - great for beginners. Having read “The Forever Dog” prior to this, I view it as an insightful introduction for those newly interested in the topic and aren’t ready for heavy information yet. I ended up gifting it to a friend at this stage in her pet parent era. The recipes are fun, and the resources listed at the end with Instragam accounts and apps (SniffSpot = game changer) were very helpful.
