The travelogue here, composed in the late 1980s, is written before the fall of socialism-communism in eastern Europe.

The author presents an endearing memorial to his place of origin, the former province of Pommern, east of the Oder River. There are descriptions of the present (1980s) locations and population, complimented by memories from the gentle lifestyle and Heimat culture before the war.
This is an inviting book for anyone fluent in German who is also interested in German history and the culture of the former eastern provinces, i.e. those lost to annexation after 1945.
The author has composed a memorial, in book form, that should be retained and re-read after the initial first impression. This slender volume has a place on the bookshelf of anyone well-versed in German history.
