"We must prove the truth of Clarence Hawkes' assertion that 'blindness is, after all, but a 25 per cent handicap in the race of life.' But it is a handicap, no matter what profession is adopted. I analyze the handicap thus: 24 per cent of it is the prejudice and unbelief of the public, and the other 1 per cent is the lack of eyesight."

This slim collection of lectures is about all that Miss Foley seems to have left behind--and that's a shame, because she's fierce and uncompromising and speaking truths that still need to be heard today (albeit in language that has not always aged perfectly).

I found this book free on the Gutenberg project.
It contains five speeches by a very enthusiastic teacher who is blind from early childhood herself.
This was very interesting, there were many things I didn't know about causes of blindness, education of blind children and adults and the prevention of blindness. Also many possibilities what kind of work blind people can do are named.
