The Necessary Nine: How to Stay Happily Married for Life!

When it comes to marriage, some things are just necessary. So say the authors
of The Necessary How to Stay Happily Married for Life! Dan Seaborn
and Peter Newhouse are proud to be regular guys turned professional marriage
and family experts who have determined that the following nine actions will
help couples stay (1) Establish Cherishing Attitudes, (2) Pursue Financial Security,
(3) Discover Sexual Satisfaction, (4) Spend Time Together, (5) Develop
Genuine Friendship, (6) Value Physical Attraction, (7) Cultivate Emotional
Oneness, (8) Guard Home Harmony, and (9) Build Spiritual Fusion. Indeed, these are the “must-do’s” for anyone who has said “I do.” And
although the list may look simple enough, Seaborn and Newhouse make sure
readers understand the “how to” part every step of the way. Based on their
popular marriage seminar of the same name, The Necessary Nine is written for
men and women and is appropriate for couples in any season of marriage.

Use this over and over for pre-marital counseling. Really good stuff. And a good reminder to my own marriage. DVD sessions available- I’ve also pulled the sessions up on YouTube

I was drawn to this book because I have heard Dan Seaborn speak many times and I do like what he has to say. There is some really good advice in here, reminders and discussion starters as well. I think there were some chapters that are hard for me to relate to right now, though. The book is meant for people who are already married. The first chapter on making sure not to invalidate each other certainly applies to any relationship or friendship, though! I think it would be good for me to read this book again after the wedding or right before.

Really enjoyed this book. I've read MANY on marriage and relationships and this was one of my favorites. Easy reading, practical, encouraging, firm, etc. It has it all and gave me some great take-aways!
