My kindergartner's accelerated reading book. He seemed to enjoy it but I found it very dry.

Dinosaur pronunciations are included in this level 2 book, which is always a big plus for me.

My boy Kindergatener brought this home (AR reading). He wrestled a bit with some of the words so he read it 3 times to really understand. But he didn't mind, as he loved it. He greatly enjoyed the comparisons made , and I think they helped make the material more graspable for him. He wanted it to be a series with more info on different kinds of dinosaurs. That's a pretty positive sign.

My daughter loves dinosaurs and this book is right up her alley. She is dyslexic and loves the fact she can lean new things in books that she can read on her own. I leaned a few new things myself, especially since she corrected my pronunciation on more than one dino.

A beginning reader non-fiction book. It's great to get kids reading non-fiction books at an early age. This one has good information about dinosaur babies, how they are born from eggs, grow, and different features they have. We were excavating dinosaurs out of "clay" eggs, so this story was very appropriate for the day.
Read for a Summer Crafternoon program.

I would recommend this book.
I liked the dinosaurs and baby dinosaurs in this book. I liked the pictures too. The baby dinosaurs were cute. I also liked the tall dinosaur. I’m glad the author helped us pronounce the long dinosaur names.

This book is from the Step into Reading A Science Reader series. It contains basic vocabulary that can be read alone and some words that a child might need help with when sounding them out. It would be appropriate for children in grades K-1. The simple sentence and language will appeal to a child learning to read on their own. Children who are interested in dinosaurs may know much of the information given in the book, so they may be ready for longer books on the subject.
The illustrations appear to be color pencil and will assist new readers in deciphering any unfamiliar text.
I would recommend this title for any collection needing non-fiction titles for new readers.

March 12, 2012My boys LOVED this book. They loved learning about dinosaurs, babies and adults alike. My 6-year-old worked through the pages with some help. I loved the book, too, and was impressed at how it simplified dinosaur facts to a level an early reader. Fantastic illustrations and wonderful vocabulary combine in this book with a great theme for an early reader.
