This is a great resource. Read it even if your marriage is good. Because most likely you will encounter someone who is not in a good marriage or is struggling in their marriage. And since one in two marriages end in divorce you will wish you were equipped to give an answer to the one who is struggling. Be equipped with strong spiritual insight on the Holy union of marriage. What God has joined together, let no man separate...

Singleness, marriage, divorce and remarriage can be problematic for many. In this little book (only 104 pages) John MacArthur cuts a straight biblical line through the fuzziness and sentimentality that cocoons most modern thinking on these subjects and lays out a truly Biblical position.

As one comes to expect from MacArthur, he exegetes the main New testament texts (Matthew 5, 19 and 1 Corinthians 7), together with other relevant Old Testament and New Testament passages, to develop a thorough going relationship paradigm applicable in every circumstance and reflective of the teaching of Scripture.

I do not suppose that his views will be accepted bay everyone, and especially not by those who wish to engage in un-permitted divorce and re-marriage. However, I for one am convinced by his analysis, understanding, application and pastoral concern.

A succinct, well written, focussed book. Highly recommended to all.

It was so affirming to read that I have partially intuitively and partly from reading the Bible, interpreted it in a Godly way, which is to say strictly, but with forgiveness in mind. To know that a pastor feels the same and is able to put great words and appropriate scripture references, not only affirmed me but helps me to know that in other areas I need to be more firm about representing what is right, while letting those around me know whatever happens they are forgivable and loved, after all I'm no better…just another daughter on a journey to her Father.

Questions about divorce and remarriage are all-too-common in our day and time. In this book, MacArthur has delivered a concise, yet thorough examination of the main passages of Scripture that deal with divorce and remarriage. He draws his conclusions from the text (and the larger context of the entire Scripture) with accuracy and poignancy. This work is easily recommended as an invaluable resource to anyone affected by these issues and those seeking to guide others Biblically.

A concise yet comprehensive look at what the Bible says about divorce and remarriage. It helps the reader understand that Scripture does allow, though not command, divorce in some circumstances and yet does not condone it just for any reason. Many books on this subject neglect looking at remarriage so that is especially helpful.
