I wanted to really like this book - a combination of science and superheroes to engage reluctant readers with a variety of interests. I would have liked, however, a better meshing of the two topics.

As it is, each page has long paragraphs about space and sidebars which add notes about superheroes or other aspects of the DC universe. The sidebars mostly match the page's topic, but the connection is not always clear, and the sidebars also include nonfiction facts about space which would be better suited to the main text.

The limited white space makes the text more difficult to read and decreases the visual appeal.

Overall it's a cool concept, but could have been executed better.

A combination of fiction and non fiction, Superman's Guide to the Universe, explores the universe with accurate facts while also throwing in references to the comic book's storyline. This book takes a look at all the planets and moons in the universe giving infomation about the planets, mankinds' knowledge of space, and interesting facts about the entire universe.
I was a little hesitant when picking up this book, I wasn't sure if it was going to be worth reading but even on the first page I was suprised to find a pleasing mixture of fact and fiction. It was a really neat way to learn about the solar system and the universe and also learning about superman and why he is the way he is. Jackie Gaff wrote an amazing informative book that was solely made for children. The kids probably won't even know they are learning as they explore the universe with the memorable characters of the Justice Leauge. I would highly suggest this to any parent or teacher who wants their kids to learn about the universe.

A very fun intro to the mysteries of the universe. Though slightly outdated (Pluto is, sadly, no longer a planet) I think my students will enjoy reading about the JLA alongside space facts. Of course, I found the facts about superheroes more puzzling than the mysteries of the universe: Superman Red and Blue? What?
