May 8, 2021So I don’t know how to review this book because I didn’t read it for it’s intentions of “saving my marriage”. My marriage doesn’t need saving but I’m always into reading books on improving relationships in all walks of life - it’s part of my job as a blogger and author. I need all the research. It seemed like a very good book. The topics covered were well done, the emphasis on couples communication was amazing and the focus on making God first with good personal time with Him daily was so important. But I don’t know how I would feel about it if I had a friend or follower going through a point where they are nearing divorce. Like would this be healthy to try and work through? I wonder if your marriage is at this point if you would be dedicated the process and willing to talk openly without a mediator? I feel like if you’re marriage is desperate enough for a book like this that you’d need a therapist to at least walk you through this??? I don’t know. I’ve never been to this point. I would say this book would be an excellent resource for a lay counselor to use IN his sessions... but on your own? I’m just not so sure ....

The advice in here might be thought of as a little “radical,” — but I do think it could genuinely help heal and restore marriages. This program is definitely for couples in which both spouses are willing and committed to resolving and healing. It won’t work with just one person trying, as there is a lot of communication between spouses required. He advocates for writing detailed letters between the two, reading the letters aloud to each other, and then discussing. If your spouse won’t even talk to you and isn’t interested in doing some hard emotional and spiritual work, then you won’t be able to put the program into practice. Still worth the read though — his advice is different from other marriage books and I think it is wise and practical. If both spouses are ready to forgive and move on once and for all — to bury the old, dead marriage and start a new marriage on a new foundation — then this could work.

Very good a lot of concrete steps to make it work again, not too sure about the shunning step though and am very lucky to not have a marriage like that, am grateful. I guess you don't know what bad is until you see how bad some other marriages can get. I like the book the first few chapters gave me a lot of things I can do to make it better. Thank you for taking your time to write the book. This book is catered for all spectrums of marriage issues. If yours is really bad at the moment have a read.

This book contains a wealth of valuable information that can be beneficial if both partners are committed to making an effort. However, if your spouse is unfaithful or if there are external factors at play, this book may not be worth your time. I encountered this situation myself. If the effort is not mutual and your spouse is not equally invested, it may be in your best interest to walk away. If the individual has already made their decision, there is nothing you can do to alter it.

I wish this book had a different title because posting that I read this on Goodreads may give the impression that my marriage is doing poorly. I can't remember how I acquired this book, but I seem to remember that it was a free giveaway from Focus on the Family. I'm in the middle of initiative to read any books that I own which I haven't previously read, and this was next up. There was some valuable material here, but it wasn't my favorite marriage book.

It was a good book, but honestly a really hard read for me. having a husband that has no interest in saving the marriage, it brought some really hard things to light. I didn't care much for his personal stories/examples, but that was just me personally, I am sure they helped others.

Great resources with action plans for helping your marriage. Good for couples and those who counsel and work with couples in struggling marriages. Focus on sin is a little too heavy with less emphasis on grace and forgiveness but over all would highly recommend.

Saving your marriage
I am happy I picked this book to read. It’s a Christian based book about saving a marriage that God has joined together. I highly recommend it.

Religious intense. Too male focused. Not all husbands are equipped to lead such conversation!
